    My 21st Visit

    Our 21st Visit
Only in Aruba and only happens to Tony.....

For the first time we went to Aruba in February and had the pleasure of witnessing Carnival... it was great, the Sunday parade I got to go and it was very well organized and worth the time to see how Aruba Celebrates....
As usual we stay at our timeshare at Paradise Beach Villas and enjoy Eagle Beach, I must say this is like Easter very crowded and lots of Cruise ships also in port made the difference, but it is still by far much better than any other beach I have been too. This year it was the smallest group yet that went Adeline & Brian Avila and Joe and Mary Avila
We arrived on Sunday and stayed till the following Thursday a total of 12 nights, at this time of the year the average age at our timeshare had to be 70+, I felt young at 54 , the people were great and fun to be with but for the first time I had to get up one day at 5 am to go save a shade on the beach at that time I got the last one! As for the resort you needed to get a spot around 6am the first week or you would not have one.... now I know that when I get to the 70s I will be up early everyday like them.
The water was warm a few days it was a bit rough but always great no rain and only one day was a bit cloudy.

On the first Wednesday I was walking in from the water and heading to the timeshare and some lady comes up to me and asks if I was Anthony or Tony the guy that built sandcastles? I responded yes and she proceeds to hug me and tell me that she has been looking for me for 7 years and has photos to give me and her prayers were answered and so on.... I could not remember her but the next day she comes over with albums of photos and sure enough she had photos of me from week 15 and 16 which was the time I use to go all the time but lately been going in August and September. We talked and I find out she owns a house on the island and stays for 6 months, she wants to come back the next day and help me build something just like the old days and I agree... the next day she shows up ready for work and we go and build a sand woman so I can send photos back home and make everyone jealous during this time I start to notice that she is not quite right but we continue once done she comes back to resort and sits around talks and talks does not want to leave but eventually leaves and promising to return again to help me, I feel bad and say ok , that evening she calls me room 2 times and is not making any sense but I say ok ok and she stopped calling. On Tuesday of this week she returns and once again we proceed she is having a good day and is making good conversation well she made sense anyway, I could tell she was on meds but she was very happy and did not follow me back to the resort, she had planned on returning on Wednesday but never showed .... on Thursday the day I left my good friend Henry who works for the water sports in Aruba comes with the Diario and shows me the news, see photo attached... she had been arrested on Wednesday for misconduct at a local hardware store and than assaulting a police officer. Apparently she did not take her medication according to some local sources. I feel real bad for her and hope she is well......

We went to Ruinas del Mar for Valentines it was excellent the ladies got roses we also went to the Fusion Bar for coffee and drinks that night and listened to great music.

One evening we were at the Alhambra Casino almost ready to leave and an elderly man who was playing the slots drops to the floor passed out people start asking for help and someone comes with a radio and calls for help and does nothing the man is just lying there Adeline (my wife) finally steps in and sits him up on the floor and he starts to talk a little finally more people came and sat him on a chair he once again goes out cold still no medics, at this point I gave out a huge shout and asked for any Nurse or Doctors and a nurse ran over still no medics I thought and don't know if he passed or not we were leaving and finally heard the ambulance coming, by the way the Hospital is about 1000 feet away. I was very disturbed with the way the casino handled the situation.

Cant wait to return and see what the next adventure will bring. Someday I wish I could spend the winter in Aruba much better than the single numbers we have here in RI.

That poor woman, and what a good sport you were. You probably made her day but you may want to change the weeks you go to Aruba!

Thanks for sharing the interesting tidbits of your trip.

Glad you mentioned Ruinas del Mar. That is our favorite, but it doesn't get much mention.
