    My 26th trip to Aruba

I arrived in Aruba on Sunday, and this is my first opportunity to check in here.

It was quite the travel adventure getting here I boarded a plane in Hartford at 6:30 a.m. on finally got checked in at Playa Linda around midnight.

The Hartford-to-Miami flight started uneventfully, but we ended up making an emergency landing in Raleigh-Durham, NC. Apparently at 37000 feet they noticed jet fuel leaking from the left wing. Our flight was met by the airport fire department upon landing. After a short while, the plane was allowed ro proceed to the gate for a closer inspection. After a short while, we deplaned.

Once in the terminal, I went and used the restroom. Upon coming out, many of the folks on my plane were standing in line at the gate waiting for information and/or rebooking of connecting flights. I went and visited an agent at a different gate and got rebookd onto the later MIA-AUA flight, as well as a different flight from Raleight-Durham to Miami.

I got to Miami and had a several hour layover before the MIA-AUA leg. Upon finally arriving in Aruba around 10 pm, I breezed through immigation and got to the luggage carousel. The luggage delivery was extremely slow and I had to wait through the entire process, only to find out my luggage didn't make it.

It was after 11 pm when I finally got outside the airport and met with Hans from Tropic car rental. Thanks, Hans, for staying there late for me! I had called from Raleigh-Durham to let him know of my new, later flight.

More to come later as time permits....

I got my luggage yesterday afternoon -- it arrived on the flight from Miami. Thankfully I always pack a bathing suit and flip flops in my carry-on, so I had those with me. Nice to have everything now.

WHOA!!! Sorry to hear that your trip got off to such a bumpy start. Good thing you used your initiative to reschedule your flights. Must have been a different view seeing the island at night, if you arrived after 10:00 pm your flight was most likely the last one to arrive, which meant the Immigration Officers most likely passed by you on their way out while you were waiting for your luggage. I know what you mean about the luggage delivery being extremely slow, especially at that hour of the night, worse yet that your luggage did not even make the flight. Talk about a Comedy of Errors!! I've been there and like I said I know how you feel. Hopefully your missing luggage has arrived and that the Comedy of Errors has not upset your plans for your stay on the One Happy Island.

I have had a couple of cracks at four-to-a-royal, but couldn't finish the deal. There's still plenty of time!

Catching up on my goings on for this trip...

Monday, I got a few hours pool/beach time, then it was off to the airport to retrieve my lost luggage. I could finally put the miserable travel day behind me! Dinner was at Smokey Joes. Visits to both Excelsior and Hyatt casinos, coming pretty close to even for the day.

Tuesday began with breakfast at Scott's Brats. I actually ran into Scott and Leslie right by there. They weren't working, but were getting their exercise in along the beach walkway.

In the afternoon, I went to the baseball park in Santa Cruz and met up with several of my Aruban umpire friends. There's a two-day showcase tournament for Venezuelan prospects (mostly aged 16-17) before a gathering of quite a few Major League scouts. The tournament was arranged for here on Aruba due to the situation/conditions in Venezuela I am going to be umpiring one of the games this afternoon -- on the bases, because I didn't lug down a second suitcase with all of my equipment. Good thing, the airline would have lost that one, too!

Dinner last night was a great fettucine alfredo with chicken from Azzurro, ordered from The Beach Bar, my favorite bar here at Playa Linda. Casino visits resulting in a small loss.

It has been fun, as always, to reconnect with my many Aruban friends I have made during these many trips.
