Royal flushes and baseball games.... my trip report thread

On my 21st visit to Aruba, playing video poker last night (at Excelsior Casino at the Holiday Inn), I hit a royal flush for $4,000 (on a $1 jacks-or-better machine). That's a rare feat of good luck.

Tonight, playing at the Hyatt casino, I was dealt a hand that gave me a chance to accomplish that feat two nights in a row, and a King of Spades in the second slot would have been the winning draw each time.

But this time, I actually was dealt a flush (it was a four of spades in the second slot). I discarded a sure winner for a shot a gambling immortality. I am going to research the odds (I am sure they are astronomical) of hitting a royal flush two days in a row.

Alas, it didn't happen. Didn't make gambling history, but I still covered this trips' expenses -- and I stiil have a good story to tell.

And I am having a wonderful time, as always in Aruba!

Nice win..... I would have played the second opportunity exactly the same... the odds for the winning card would be about 1 in 47.... Overall odds of a Royal Flush would be about 1 in 40,000! I had the good fortune of a Royal Flush at the Radisson last year.... my second there in 4 or 5 years!

If you play 10 hands per minute, that's 600 per hour or a Royal Flush every 67 hours of play.... So... the odds of 2 days back to back seem to be exceptionally time consuming!!!! Not to mentions very high against doing it!

rpumpire, I look at that photo and what jumps out at me is that you are a Red Sox fan like me.

The caption should read: "Opening day: Red Sox lost, but I won!"

And that is a Xander Bogaerts' jersey I am wearing.

I am excited for later today. I am going to be umpiring a baseball game here in Aruba!

Nice and you played it right. A flush pays you 30 or 35 coins and a Royal pays you 4000 coins. I play at the local Hard Rock casino here in Oklahoma. I went in one day to play $1 video poker on my way to a doctors appointment. I was dealt the A,K,J,10, and 8 of spades. I drew a card with no hesitation and hit the Q of spades for the royal. A couple of years ago we got 2 nights free rooms and dinner there. After dinner I went with DW to the casino area(nonsmoking)so she could play her favorite wheel ,of fortune slots. I sat in the row behind her which had quarter video poker machines. I played the double, double bonus game and hit 4 As with a 2 and collected 800 quarters. A few plays later I was dealt a Royal in clubs. I walked away from the machine after a few more hands and played a couple of others. Came back about 15 minutes later looking for DW. Not in sight so I sat down at the same machine. Played about 5 hands and was dealt A of hearts, Q of hearts and 3 trash cards. I drew the K hearts, J hearts and 10 of hearts for another royal. I have not had one since but it was a great night.
