    Newbie Day 4

We are slowly feeling more confident finding our way around the island. We haven't ventured into Oranjestad yet. Don't know if we need to. We love the location of our rental villa, a five minute drive to Palm Beach, Madame Janette's and Super Foods. Unlike rainy yesterday, today was sunny and HOT. A good beach day. On everyone's recommendations we wanted to try Scotts Brats for lunch. We parked free in the lot across the from Playa Linda Resort and walked the resort to the beach. Scotts is just to the left. I loved making my own Bloody Mary. Hubby had an italian sausage and I had a brat with sauerkraut. Yummy. It just hit the spot. I enjoyed a chat with a jovial Scott, who is from Wisconsin and imports his sausage from there. Lots of Germans in Wisconsin!

As I walked around the beach taking photos i couldn't help but notice all the empty chairs with towels on them, obviously saved for the day by nonexistent guests. We've been in that situation competing for chairs at resorts in the past. I think that is so rude - one raeason i love staying in a private villa with our own pool.

The casino was calling us. A good escape from the heat of the midday. Just as the previous day we headed to Alhambra and just as the previous day our favorite slot game was good to us. We walked out a few hours later with an extra $30. Seasoned gamblers willi laugh at us, but we play penny slots and are unwilling to lose more than $20 a day for each of is. That's our limit.

We had our beach chairs with us and went in search of some sand. Hubby wanted to be around people so we headed to Moomba. It took is quite a few wrong turns and asking directions several times before we finally found their parking lot. It's behind the Marriott, on a nondescript sidestreet next to Palm Beach mall. I didn't see a sign on the road for Moomba. Maybe we missed it. We found a shady spot to set up our chairs and settled in for sunset, which didn't disappoint. I couldn't count how many sunset pics I have taken in my lifetime, lol.
Back at the villa, our evening meal was leftovers from the gigantic schnitzel dinner from Madame Janette's the night before. Unbelievably, there was still some leftover for yet another meal.

I agree re the towels reserving chairs for inordinate amounts of time: it drives me insane on cruise ships. It's why we stopped going on big ships and also why we rented private villas in Aruba.

    Gorgeous photos! Thanks for sharing.

I would definitely recommend going to Oranjestad. I absolutely love the yacht haven, strolling around the "Marketplace" mall, I always liked "La Plaza" and the other little restaurants there, having coffee at the "Tropical Cafe". Then, across the street, going to the Renaissance Mall window shopping. I even like the "big pink cake" mall building. Just lots to see. IMO.

I love the trip report and sharing information regarding restaurants, Super Foods, etc. I was wondering what side of the street they drive on but you have answered that for me. Pictures are very nice. Enjoy. I have read quite a few reports on Madame Janette's and look forward to going there as well.

Re Madame Janettes: We've been there twice now and plan to return on Friday. We have gotten to know the Austrian Chef, Boris, and it's his attention to detail and hard work that brings people back again and again. I wish I could return many more times to try everything on the menu. If you are going, make your reservation well in advance online. Their entertainmenr begins at 7:30, so time your visit accordingly. We've heard the easy listening musical stylings of Rene twice now. Wish he had a CD!
He sings Eric Clapton, Sting, McCartney. Love him.
