    Nikko and friends 2015 trip...lol

WOW----I cannot believe i am home already!! this vacation seemed to go so fast!!! we went this time with friends that we have known forever but now live in south carolina, and shared a 2 bedroom unit at the surf club. They arrived on Sunday and stayed 1 night at the divi dutch. they liked it but were very disappointed in the lack of anything from the staff at divi. they didn't explain anything about the resorts or anything to them. now onto our arrival......

our adventure all started on sunday when we checked into the newark marriott hotel. we were doing the stay/park/fly package. hotel was really nice, i will definitely do it again. we then went down to Ferry st in newark, the ironbound section to have dinner. this is the Portuguese section of newark and the restaurants are amazing! we ate and drank, I had my first ever caipirinha drink!!! omg yum!!! it was really a great way to start our vacation...not running crazy! slept, woke up at 5:30, (had an 8:50 flight) got to the airport, checked in and to the gate by 6:10!!! LOL i have NEVER seen it soooo empty! we settled in and had breakfast and relaxed. Flight was uneventful, and we got in very early. Got thru the aruba airport in very short time....used the new passport scanner ....grabbed our bags and liquor from duty free and out the doors we went!! yay aruba!!!! The rep from More 4 Less was right outside and off we went to the office....Jeep ready and spotless! paperwork done in minutes and off we went. I didnt let our friends know we got in early, i figured we would surprise them. They had left divi and went up to surf, knew they were too early for a check in but knew they would go to the pool. so we dropped off our bags and went out to meet them. they happened to be on the other side of the pool.....when Cathy, mu friend, saw us she of course screamed and jumped in the water to come over to meet us! well.....i missed my friend......so..... i jumped in fully clothed to go meet her!!! lol the bartender was in shock! lol my lovable husband just looked at him and told him...."Hang on....she is stone cold sober and its only gonna get wilder with these two"!!!!!! He was cracking up!!! if you were there i am sure we looked nuts.....but i only get to see her once a year and this was something we have wanted to do forever!! we had dropped our bags and didnt grab our suits so(not that that stopped me....)we sat and had drinks and caught up. when we went to check in we were told we were in the spyglass on the second floor.(furthest from beach no view) Well.....these poor girls at the desk were up against a real estate agent and a car salesman....those ladies didnt stand a chance!! i believe at one time i was thrown out there in the negotiations to cook dinner for them to get a better room! we finally ended up in the Lighthouse building, closest to the beach, 5th floor, second room in from the beach!! lol OMG the view! i believe they put them there just to get them out of their building!!!! lol they knew we were going to be a rolling party!! lol room was beautiful, all luggage was accounted for and unpacked.....off to ling's we went! fully stocked up and ready to go to dinner finally. we went to Pelican pier. Really nice looking place over the water, but to quiet for me. we usually do bugaloo the first night but they were closed for a few days. the food was good, not great, but good. after dinner we went to Alhambra Casino and had some fun. we all won some so it was a good night. Day one on the books....off to bed for all of us!!.........

Love it! I was so happy for you to see your friend while reading your post! So cool to be able to meet up in Aruba

We had the same issues with the Divi staff. Sorry to hear.

Day two--tuesday.......I got up early as usual and decided to prep some food since we were eating in that night. I bought these really large prawns at lings and also 4lbs of shrimp for cocktail for the week. the prawns were absolutely huge! i had to poach a few for hubby because the rest i was grilling with a garlic butter. we also were having grouper and some sides. I decided i was not playing the chair game at the butt crack of dawn.....lol i also started cooking breakfast and slowly they all got up. spent the day at the pool lounging and drinking and had a lovely day!!! fun with the bartenders and of course bingo! jim won a small pot and had to split it! lol we had a good first day. we stayed late because we did not need to "dress" for dinner! off to the grills i go----had to wait a bit and almost had to get into it with a "lovely" south american gentleman who didnt want to wait his turn for a grill and was telling one of the other men there to act like he was with him.....act like family........so i gave him a few choice words in spanish and he went and sat down. really????? its vacation....don't be an ass. we ended up having a audience at the grill with what i was cooking.....lol....one guy even wanted to follow us home! then the poor people in the elevator i swear were plotting how to overtake us....lol dinner was amazing! we had a blast!!! great conversation and good friends and of course, great food and drink!! ok----time for the casino----i think we went to hyatt this night.....yes cause hubby deposited and i won. we came out a bit ahead....jim and cathy played and had fun too! time for bed.....I know....boring day!

wednesday---day 3----got hubby up early for his appointment at the spa at the ritz. He has gone there before and loves the massages and the spa itself. we all went down to the beach.....low and behold, just like at the pool....plenty of chairs and shade! lol just floated and laughed and made new friends all day!! it was a great day but pretty boring....my kinda boring, but not much to write about!! lol dinner tonight we were taking jim and cathy out for a thank you for inviting us and also the boys birthday was September 15th. Quinta del Carmen night! what a beautiful restaurant! i absolutely loved the building and courtyard. they started us off with a complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate! we started by sharing a cesar salad and an order of crispy shrimp. Both were very good! we also moved on to orange cosmos by then...yumm!!! for dinner hubby had the skirt steak a la parilla.....he enjoyed it and said it was so tender. his only comment was maybe just a bit less sauce next time....jim had the shrimp pina colada.....he loved it and said it was the perfect blend of sweet and spicey. Cathy and i couldnt decide between the rack of lamb and the duck...she ordered the duck and i had the rack of lamb.....and we shared! the rack of lamb was perfection as was the duck!! i highly recommend either of them!! we ended the meal with 1 piece of the chocolate tart to share and then they surprised the boys with a small plate of nutella cheesecake with sparklers! it was a great meal! i am glad we went. Now.....on to the main controversey that everyone keeps asking me....did i like it better than Madame Jannettes.......here's my take.....i love them both. this restaurant for me will not take madame J's place, but i will happily add it to my list of go to's. off to the ritz casino this night.....whoo-hoo i was on a streak!! yay< finally we had fun money!!!! lol (just kidding---however i did tell a friend if i hit big i would take her there!) didnt quite hit that big but we wouldnt have to worry about bar tabs or food!!! lol we stayed very late---2am i believe! oops...off to bed because tomorrow we head out finally to the natural pool! we hired a private guide who is meeting us in a few hours in front of the hotel....off to bed we go!!!
