Nothing to do now besides start a trip report!

I should be sleeping, in preparation for the early wake - 2 am to get on the road at 3. We have a 5:45 flight out of Rochester connecting through JFK and scheduled to arrive in Aruba at 1:25. But I know you all know that antsy feeling leading up to a visit to paradise.

We took advantage of the Tropicana deal, which was the impetus for a 2nd trip this year. I'm a little hesitant about the accommodations but trying to remind myself of the great deal. I did visit the Trop when I was there in May and was shown a renovated room which was very nice.

Im still debating about buying a Mio or getting a wifi card from the Trop - we need to stay in touch with MIL's caretaker at home. Plus I need wifi to update my report daily!! If any of you have experience with the wifi connection in the room and on the beach, can you weigh in?

Our good friends will be accompanying us this trip. Plus another local couple who are Trop timeshare owners will be there this same week AND my oldest high school friend will be there one day on a cruise. So we have lots of entertaining to do this trip. We don't have any reservations or definite plans yet but I hope to try Terrazzo Italiana as well as other restaurants in the eagle beach area since we are usually Palm Beach peeps. I also can't wait to try the eagle beach food truck. Does anyone know if there is an Eduardo's near the Alhambra shops? I swore I saw that they had a 2nd location last year but I can't find any details on it right now. I'm obsessed with their acai bowls and it would be nice not to have to trek to Playa Linda every day to get my fix. Although we do plan to visit Playa Linda a few times to catch up with our friends at Beach Bar, have a Scott's brat, etc.

Im a little nervous with the disturbing news about the recent attack on a local couple and the fact that the suspects are still on the loose. Will definitely keep my guard up a little more than we usually do. One thing is certain- I will not be heading out to the beach by myself in the wee hours of the morning like I do at Playa Linda. I'm actually looking forward to sleeping in til 8 or so this trip and will happily settle for a back row.

Ok I've rambled enough. I'll touch base tomorrow, or more likely, Saturday, as we tend to get a little coo coo on arrival day. Lol. If any of you would like me to check anything else while I'm on the island, ask away....

People seem to like the Mio. They use the same jetpack as Verizon which I use at home for my wireless and I'm happy with it.

    Safe travels tomorrow!

The second Eduardo's was at Casa del Mar but unfortunately has closed down- so sad about that as we stay at ABC every May. I still go down one morning to get my fix!

    Have a great trip!

The room at Trop when I was there in August was great, roomy & clean, although a bit dated (big deal, right?). The wifi worked very well for us in the room near the courtyard windows & on the balcony. All around the pool area & lobby too.

We we bought the MIO a few years ago and it worked great. LaCabana updated their internet so we haven't had to use it the last few trips. Enjoy your trip and look forward to your report. We will be at LaCabana 14 days from today!

Just a quick update as I came up to the room for a quick siesta before dinner. Great flights yesterday. Everything went as smooth as could be and we arrived about 30 mins early at 1 pm. One thing to note that I haven't seen mentioned here - the happy flow lines are gone. That whole side of the arrivals hall is gutted and the computers were nowhere in sight. The airport was dead and we wer the only plane arriving so moving through customs was fast but i bet it's crazy on Saturdays and Sunday's. Luggage was on the belt, couple bottles of booze and outside to meet the Optima rep. I'm really loving Optima. This is our second time using them and they have great rates and efficient service. Slow traffic through downtown. Arrived at Trop at 2. Bit of a line at checkin and I heard them tell each person ahead of us that their rooms wouldn't be ready until 4, so I figured that would be the same for us. But we got to the counter, I held my breath after asking 1) are our rooms ready, 2) did we get renovated rooms as I requested and 3) did you put us next to each other? All 3 ?s were answered with a Yes!! Score! We happy danced it all the way up to our rooms on the 2nd floor. Our friends were in total disbelief with the quality of these rooms for the price we paid. I was afraid Trop wouldn't come through and was preparing them, and myself, for the worst.

Changed into swimsuits and and hit the pool bar for a few brights. During happy hour we tried a few frozen concoctions and have to say they were all terrible. Lol. We decided we will stick to beer or wine at the bars here. We were starving so got pizza and salad from Pizza Bobs, which hit the spot. Then we ventured over to Lacabana and caught last call for happy hour there. I really like the vibe of that resort. We might look at a room there next week.

Spent today day on the beach and I am already head over heels in love with Eagle Beach. We love the Playa Linda but Eagle really has it all over Palm Beach. We are already talking about splitting our 2 weeks next May between Playa and one of the resorts here. Tonight we are going to head down to Palm for dinner at Azzuru and drinks at the Beach Bar. Can't wait to surprise our friends there as we didn't clue anyone in that we were returning for a 2nd visit this year.

Thats it it for today foks. I'll report more tomorrow. The wifi here, as others have reported, is pretty good in the pool and lobby areas and ok on our balcony. But everyplace else it's pretty non existent. Can someone tell me where the Mio store is located? Think we are going to pull the trigger on that.

there is a MIO store at the Alhmabra marketplace.

also a MIO store (lareger and more employees) downtown.
i will post a google map link.
i think that i would recommend that store.

glad to hear that your unit at the Trop is acceptable!!
how early do you have to get onto the beach in order to get a spot in the shade?

LaCabana's Happy Hour is the best....i would venture to say, maybe the best of all of the resorts!
