Where have I been??? I had no idea you were heading there.
We probably got so caught up in the storm.
So.... I wish you a wonderful vacation. Be safe and pass hugs to all we know. Enjoy the Rennaissance!!!
day 1 travel day
fights were ok and uneventful.
orlando to miami on time and smooth.
a brazilian band was on board.....hahaha how ironic huh? Michel Telo.
apparently they are very popular/famous.
the drummer sat beside paul and i and had tattoo sleeves and many piercings.
but the funny thing was he stared at paul the whole time..........hiccups.
i could not help laughing, lots!
miami to aruba, 20 minutes late and some bits of bumps over the bahamas and the isle of hispanola.
huge crowds at aruba immigration.
the wait was 45 minutes.
the detour out of the airport was easy, go to the right, make a 360 degree turn around the construction rotary and head back parallel to the main road and eventually bearing right towards the downtown. easy and there were adequate signs.
check in at renaissance ocean suites was painless and our room overlooks the parking lot towards the marina........but at least we do not have to change rooms after week 1 and move into another unit for week 2. so crummy view, but so what.
we each got a quick jump into the pool and a cold beverage.
dinner at hung paradise with our friend kathy aka SUGAR on this forum.
after dinner donation at the crystal casino
dear husband.........has a bad back (lumbar region) and had a cortisone shot yesterday and guess what has happened as a result of the cortisone shot? HICCUPS!
the hiccups have been nonstop since 6 am.
he called dr. habibe here on island and the dr told him to take benadryl........which he is doing. no relief yet.
but his back is better
visited duty free right before we left the airport.
2 bottles of baileys $38
2 bottles kahlua $32
customs did not ask, just waved us through.
i am working on the baileys as i type
Weather Breezy and Sunny. One of those kind of days where ArubaLisa's mom says "pray for a cloud now and again"
Paul's hiccups thanks to the Benadryl are gone!
Having hiccups for 20 hours was exhausting (for him) and annoying for those around him... ME
We spent the better part of the day at Renaissance Island, lying in the shade, snorkeling out by the rocks and reading. Yes, we still read with our ears. Both of us are hooked on audio books. So we are able to "listen/read" and still people watch. (he uses his ipod and i use my iphone and we both have lots of Stuart Woods books loaded in)
The snorkeling was very good at the rock wall at Ren Island.
On our way to the shuttle boat this morning we met forum member HuffDaddy and his lovely wife and 2 grown grandchildren. I am sure we'll be seeing them lots over the next couple of weeks.
Made a late afternoon run to Lings and to the pharmacy to buy more Benadryl, just in case! While we were out we discussed where we were going to have dinner and both came to the conclusion that we wanted to have take out and eat in. Choices choices!
He wanted Hollywood Smokehouse, I wanted King Ribs. We got both and omgosh there was way way too much food. Enough for dinner tonight and much leftover. Now neatly packed in the freezer, except the slaw. We decided that we like Both. King Ribs has way better chicken (in our opinion) and Hollywood Smokehouse has slightly better ribs (again opinion).
Of course there were mashed potatoes, baked beans and cole slaw. We feel like we are going to explode! They are only open on the wknds. Both are really terrific.
Tomorrow night and the next few nights wherever we go, we will be eating grilled fish and salad.
Took a walk after dinner and are calling it a night.
I hear some rumblings about a new downtown business hotel on Main St in the plans.
Anyone else hear or read anything about it? What i have seen has been on the local tv news.
