Coming back "even" from Alhambra is a win!

Wednesday - another day on the beach. The sun was out most of the day, beautiful blue water, white sand and good friends. Life is good! Went to Fishes and More for dinner. The roads were a little flooded so it looks like the high rise area got the rain today. I like that the rain takes turns on different areas of the island. We were seated inside and greeted by Danialla our waitress. Bob ordered the grilled grouper with a garlic sauce and I ordered the fried grouper. Both came with au gratin potatoes, mixed vegetables and warm rolls with garlic butter. We both were completely satisfied with our meal. The chef will prepare your fish anyway you want so needless to say, this place never disappoints me. Oh did I mention that we shared a warm apple strudel with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream? Outstanding. Finished off our wine and headed to Alhambra in which we came back even. No complaints here.

Thursday - heading down to the beach and will decide which of the wonderful restaurants we will visit tonight. Will update again.

Thursday night - decided to just stay in for dinner and ate leftovers. When to head out to the Alhambra but a huge thunder storm came. Played at the glitz and came home up another $100.00.

Friday - another beautiful day on the beach. A little drizzle for a few minutes but other than that, the best day for weather yet. Water was so clear you could see your feet and temperature wise was perfect. 10 of us went to Bavaria for dinner. We had never been there but heard good things about it. One of the ladies and I split an order of potato pancakes that were to die for, sauerkraut and those little German drop noodles that are prepared with butter and sautéed onions. Bob ordered this rolled beef thing with a pickle rolled in it and served with red cabbage, the German noodles and gravy. He just smiled the whole time he ate because he said it tasted just like the beef his grandma used to make. I love red cabbage but I didn't care for it. This was more of a cinnamon flavor vs a vinegar flavor that my mom used to make. He topped it all off with an apple strudel. Very reasonable too. Our bill was $51.00 plus tip and that included a beer and wine. We will definitely keep this on our restuarant list to go again.

Saturday - taking the day off from the beach and going to cruise the island, have Scott's Brauts for lunch and see where we land.

Saturday continued- we ended up going downtown for breakfast but by the time we got out of the casino (70.00 ahead), it was lunch time. Decided to try West Deck since we heard good things about it and it was on our list. Got a nice table in the shade over looking the water and ordered the jerk chicken wings, grouper fingers and fuchi bread. The wings were perfectly seasoned, not to hot but very messy to eat, the grouper fingers had a Balashi breading that was very light and tasty and the fuchi bread was deep fried and was some smothered in goat cheese and not sure what other cheese but all was very good. Walked over to the crystal but didn't stay long. Just as a heads up, if your ticket prints out at the machine, you have to go and cash it out because the machines won't take it and we noticed that if you had under .50 left, the ticket won't print out so they have to hand pay you. Most left the change in the machine and moved on so it makes you wonder if this is something new they came up with to make a little extra money. Needless to say, we are not going back. Went over to the Alhambra to play and ended up very profitable for us. I hit a minor on the machine for $38, a major for 199.00 and another minor for 20.00. Plus Bob won on a slot and a video poker so we walked out with $400.00. Well, by this time it is dinner time so we decided to try Hollywood Smoke House since we heard good things about it. Bob had the brisket sandwich with cole slaw and I had the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw. Not a lot of sauce on it which I like but you can always add some but both were a little dry. I put my cole slaw on my pork, a little extra sauce and it was delicious. Don't think it makes our have to go back to list. Hit the glitz on the way in since we felt a little lucky and ended up coming home with $600.00. All in all, a good day but I was burnt out on casino's, lol!

Sunday - beautiful day on the beach. Some friends from Boston got in and so lots of catching up to do. The water was beautiful temperature wise but late afternoon high tide came in, which is always fun to float with the waves but it did bring algae in. Stayed in for dinner and called it an early night.

Monday - another day of beach and then out with 2 other couples for Ricardo's tonight. Another new one for us so I will fill you in later. Bon dia!

my husband plays quite a bit at the Crystal and made mention of the same thing about the slot credits not printing to a ticket for cashing. the place needs much updating imo. i am smiling at your comment of being burnt out re: casinos. I hear ya!!! Although it is terrific to win, it gets tedious and tiring.

thanks so much for your reviews on "west deck and hollywood"........your comments/reviews are similar to many.........Hollywood seems to have no "wow factor" and that is disappointing. most seem to say their meals are good, but not terrific.
in aruba, we come to "expect terrific"

    thanks again for sharing.
