Our Aruba trip October 5 -23

I already tried to post earlier and it wouldn't let me so this is a test to see if it works. If so, I will post as the days go on.

Well, looks like it could work so here goes again. I won't bore you with all of our airline nightmare story but let's just say we were supposed to start out from Phoenix at 6:30 am Friday, spend the night in Atlanta and fly into Aruba Saturday. After flight delays due to the plane breaking down, we got to Atlanta at 1 am, our luggage was locked up at the international terminal so after spending 2 days in the same clothes, we finally get to Aruba and thank goodness all the luggage arrived with us! Our room at LCBRC wasn't ready so we had a few drinks at the Pata Pata bar, hit the new super foods, picked up a MIO for the internet ( thanks for your input Andrea, easy to set up and works great) grabbed some wings and nachos at the resort and called it a day.

A beautiful morning in Aruba, headed to the beach to catch up with all of our Aruba friends from the east coast that we have met over the years and finally relaxed. Wanted to go to wacky wahoo for dinner but they were closed on Sunday so ended up at fishes and more. The beer battered grouper was delicious, along with the potatoes and mixed veggies that come with it. Went to the Alhambra after and cashed out $260.00 so all in all, a great day.

Monday spent the day at the beach again and went to a new restaurant ( for us ) with some of our New York friends. It is a Greek Italian restaurant called Zuzurah (not sure of the spelling) that sits behind the screaming eagle. Everett and his wife margarita the owners, were so accommodating! I had a Greek lasagna (potatoes, ground beef, spices and a white cream sauce) very good, hubby had carbonara and the other couple had a lobster gnocchi that was very good (we all did a taste of everyone's dishes). The owners ended our evening by bringing a shot to the table that they did with us because they appreciated us coming in and wanted to give something back to us. Such a nice gesture and a delicious shot that he called the Crazy Greek. Had a mint flavor to settle your stomach after dinner. Went to the Alhambra again and cashed out another $280.00. Great day with some great Aruba friends!

Tuesday -Of course another beautiful day in Aruba so we are heading out to our favorite palapa for the day! For those that were wondering about the aloe man, he was in his bright orange outfit this afternoon on the beach and still going strong!
Came up from the beach and decided to try Pizza Bob's that is located in the Tropicana because we heard it was good. Pizza is Chicago style and was delicious, along with the side salad. Ended the night at the Glitz casino here at LCBRC. Donated $20.00 and called it an early night.

Wednesday- another beautiful day in Aruba so heading down to our favorite palapa again. Stayed on the beach most of the day and went to some friends that are staying at the marriott for dinner. They have a top floor room with beautiful views. I will try to post pictures later or when I get home ( not sure if I can post them from my iPad ).

Thursday - after another day on the beach, we went to San Nicolas for the carnival. I thought the website said it was from 6-8 so we got there about 5:45 to find out it doesn't start until 7 and the parade is at 9. Parking was a breeze because we were so early so we walked the street for awhile in went into Charlie's for some drinks and appetizers. If you have not been, it is a unique little place that is worthy of checking out. We had a few Balashi and some conche rolls and marinaded steaks strips. The rolls weren't very good but the steak was outstanding and both are served with fries. They had plenty of food from the vendors when we got out of Charlie's, giving out samples and selling all kinds of mardi gras type masks and jewelry. We sat for a while and listened to the band and then 50 minutes before the parade, our friends wanted to leave:-( Not sure if we will go again next Thursday but I would recommend going a little early to park. The Depalm buses were there. Bringing bus loads of tourist so it gets pretty crowded but I bet it was a lot of fun when the parade started. Worth trying one time.

Friday - taking a break from the beach today and going to take the boardwalk tour along the high rises, stop at Scott's Brauts and then we'll see where it goes from there.

I have written 3 posts already and when I go to submit my post it tells me I am not logged in even though I signed in and verified it. I wrote a post this morning and it says that it has to be verified by a moderator, so not sure if you are seeing anything this morning from me.

Friday continued - walked the boardwalk by the high rises and stopped to have lunch at Scott's Brauts. Met Leslie and Scott. Such a nice couple and so happy for their success here in Aruba. My husband had the Doc's Brauts with peanut butter, cream cheese and jalapeņo. He said it was delicious but I didn't have the courage to try it, lol, but he would recommend it. I had the Italian sausage with peppers and onions which I would also recommend. Delicious! Not sure if anyone else uses travelers checks but we bring half cash and half travelers checks (try not to use credit cards) and I guess the high rise area got taken for about $7000.00 so not many places will take them anymore. Just to show you how nice Leslie and Scott are, they said they would work on the honor system and we could come by and pay them later! Luckily we had enough cash but I thought that was such a nice jesture!

Went to Tango's for dinner. Hubby had the tenderloin and I had the filet mignon and it was outstanding. I have never had a steak cooked so perfectly. They have a new manager that has been there about 4 months and food and service was excellent. Finished off the night at the Alhambra and cashed in $550.00 on the penny machines so a nice ending to a great day in Aruba!

Saturday- another beautiful day so we are heading to our favorite palapa on the beach and catch up with more of our Aruba friends that are coming I today.

thanks for sharing and thanks for the info about traveler's checks.
typically we do the same as you....we bring half cash and half traveler's checks.
we have no issues cashing them at the casinos
most of the resorts will accept them also, some of the resorts charge a fee for cashing, but not charge a fee for using them towards your bill.

we rarely get any reports on "tango". glad that you had an excellent meal. paul and i haven't been there in years.

scott and leslie are really lovely folks! it is terrific that their "scott's brats venture" has turned out so well. they work very hard, sleep very little and don't get to "play" on aruba much at all.

congrats on cashing out at the alhambra!

thank you for sharing and continue to have a blast!
    enjoy
