    Our First Trip, 12/9-16, 2016

Deb and I head down the morning of the 9th. Direct flight on JetBlue was great and we got there early afternoon as expected. Getting off the plane and through customs was pretty quick although I think we had to show our passports about 3 times. We received a bag from the Divi and headed for our ride to our room. But wait, it was raining, what was this about. It rained most of the day and at some point everyday. We were told by many that there was no rain for 8 years and ever since hurricane Matthew, they get rain everyday. Anyway, the ride to the Costa Linda was quick. Our room was not ready so we had lunch at the resort which was good and had a taxi take us to the grocery store. Picked up coffee, snacks and some breakfast stuff for about $60. Room was ready when we returned, real nice, close to pool and beach. Room worked out great.

pool and beach were very nice all week. First day in the ocean, a wave took my wife out but luckily I had her and she was ok. There was a foot and a half step down into the ocean which along with the good size waves made it tough to get in and out of the water. Went to the pool a bit more because of this. All was beautiful though.

Food: We ate all breakfast out on the patio, this was great. Cooked all but one day in the room and one day ordered take out from the restaurant which was good. Breakfast was a nice relaxing time for us. Lunch: most lunches were 2 for 1 drinks or leftovers. We did go to Tony Roma's conce which was not worth the effort or cost of the taxi so we will not be back. Dinners: most were awesome but costly so in the future we may cut back and cook more. Most places we walked to but our last night we took a taxi although I think it would have been a nice walk. Pizza Bobs was fine for a quick dinner our first night. Pizza was fine. The Chophouse was great. Took over 2 hours for dinner and was about the most expensive of the week by a couple dollars. Had the rib eye and it was good. Food, service and atmospher was great. Did have one customer that was a pain for the rest of us as she was load and complained about everything starting with the table she was sat at. We felt bad for the workers that they had to deal with her. Next we tried Ricardo's, wow the was great. Outside on the deck, watching the sunset, just wonderful. Steak kabob was huge and everything was great. We did not think we could top the previous meal but we did. Will be back for sure. Monday night we cooked pasta in house and enjoyed our time. We wanted to stay in to be ready for the Patriots game. The next night we walked to Matthews which was next door to Ricardo's. This place could be so much better but it just didn't do it for us. It was rib night and they were fine but nothing special. My wife had chicken parm and did not feel well the rest of the night. Our last night it was Passions on the Beach. This was awesome and well worth it. Awesome sunset, awesome waitress, awesome singer and awesome food, had the filet, well worth it. Will keep this on the list as well.

After such a great week we did put a deposit on a timeshare and are finishing the details.

Now for the negative, the airport and leaving... We were all set to go and then got an email that our flight was delayed which would make us miss our connection. We headed over early to see what we could do. United moved us to Delta which was an earlier flight. Now we are running late. The lack of help and signage, directions and the fact that no one can answer your questions to get you through the airport and customs led us to wish we were not buying a timeshare. The custom area was a mess with multiple lines joining together and some people had to do stuff others did not. The lines took up 2 rooms, the fact that they take your luggage and the you have to take it back was crazy. They only had 3 windows open which did not help. We finally get to and area were the kiosk is and we get an X because they changed our flight. All the girl can say is you should have lied. In the end our flight had been delayed so we just made it as boarding was going on. More info, a lot more info would be nice about the airport. If our original flight had not been delayed everything might have been fine but for us, what a pain. Give yourself 3-4 hours and take direct flights if possible is my advice.

    thank you for your story!

no rain for 8 yrs is an untruth that you were told.
the last few months has been pretty wet, and the previous 18 mos or so was pretty dry.
i guess it all evens out after a while.
nonetheless though, Nov and Dec is rainy season (although usually not deluges, just spotty showers multiple times a day)

traveling in the winter..............aw delays and cancellations are a pain.
non stops are a great idea if you can get a non stop.

so glad that you had a good time and glad that you were able to get a timeshare at costa linda!

welcome home and dont be a stanger here.

Glad you loved the island. Don't let the hassle leaving drive you away or put a damper on your stay, going home always stinks. Going home from Aruba is painful but we have learned to adjust. We always try to fly direct as you mentioned, especially during the winter months. We also get to the airport 3.5 hours early to miss all the lines. We typically get through in 30 or so minutes and grab lunch, then relax.

Something like that. Although coming home this summer we were delayed and had to wait almost 5 hours total and that was painful but nothing that will prevent me from returning as often as I can afford to do so.

Congrats on your first Aruba trip and TS purchase. Please don't let your departure day sway your TS decision, it can be quite overwhelming and confusing the first time. The next trip will be much easier I am sure, it is great in the long run as you go thru US Customs while in Aruba. As long as you give yourself enough time you will be fine. Our flight was delayed as well last month and making our connection was pretty stressful but it all worked out.
