    our week in paradise....

our week flew by soooo fast. so much to write about i will probably break this up into a few posts. ok....here we go....

we were leaving out of newark and this year for the first time, had to do a connection in washington.(dulles) we had a 6:20 am flight so we stayed at a park and fly at the airport on saturday night. we used the wyndham gardens and they were close to the airport and decent enough. got up at 3:30 am and shuttled over to the airport. this is where it gets interesting. we were booked on united and the flight was united 5837. got dropped off at the united ternminal and immediately went to a united employee to make sure we were in the right area.(united and continental are merging so it is a bit crazy) yes we were and were told get in this line. waited in line about 45 minutes, finally get up to check in bags and find out, no, we are supposed to be at continental....different terminal and have to start all over....we get back on the train and go over there and wait again to find out....no you need to be over there.....ok...i lose it because i know at this point we are NOT gonna make this flight....to say that this particular employee and i had a "come to jesus" moment is an understatement. he then takes us to a closed area...opens a terminal....gets us all checked in and get us to security. security is at least an hour wait....not gonna make it again and nothing he can do. well.....i started to cry....i had just had it....and now due to their issues i am gonna miss the flight. one of the security people come over and after explaining what happened and that it was now 5:50 am and we were never gonna make the flight he ushered us through. wish i had gotten his name because he was the only one who truely seemed to care. got to the gate and barely got on the plane....but we were on and on our way! flight in washington was fine and we got on the connecting flight just fine. ahhhh---aruba here i come!!!! get off the plane.....get down to get the bags and i look up and there is the best thing in the world at that moment----BULLY waving at me!!! when we got the bags and got out to him i gave him the biggest hug---he probably thought i was crazy but i was so happy to see him!!! lol got in the van and off we went! he gave us the island updates and told us about all the new stuff...then told us about the kids baseball and that the boys were flying home that night and they were all going to the airport to greet them and did we want to come? of course!!! son was excited about this and we drove along catching up....then all of a sudden, on the radio....i hear the dj announce that the meyers have just landed and are heading to the tam!!! we all looked at each other....and started laughing!!! bully arranged for the dj to do this and it was fantastic!!! my son looked at me and asked...."really??? who are you mom??? how does this stuff happen??" he has been telling his friends and laughing all week about it!! THANK YOU BULLY!!!
he drops us off to the tamarijn and it begins.....we are greeted by Fred....i love fred...what a wonderful man. during the week we had many funny moments with fred. he told us stories and just was always there if we had any questions. what an amazing man...if you go...find fred. check in was a breeze and we were off to the room.

our room was 1215. i had requested first floor in the 11-12-1300 buildings. they honored the request and we loved the location. dropped out stuff...threw on bathing suits and hit the beach! eagle beach was glorious! looked just as we remembered it. lounged and played a bit...got some drinks...finally tried a brown lady....holy hell...i had no idea!!!! i am hooked! (so is son....he thought it was a coffee coolatta....and i at first didnt realize he was sneeeking sips....had to put a stop to that real quick!!!lol) after a bit i went in to unpack and organize the room.

this is the first time i was at the tam and i have to say the rooms were really quite nice. not big really but layed out really well...we never felt like sardines. there was plenty of storage for all of us and i got everything organized and unpacked. the mini-fridge is a nice bonus. the room we were in was handicapped accesable. a wheel chair could get in the room and into the bathroom just fine but that really is about it. it would NOT really be able to get to the sliding doors or out to the patio. we loved the location for son....close enough to all the activities that i could give him some freedom. beaches all looked wonderful and we loved the first impressions of the resort. we figured we would do the buffet the first night and just relax. buffet was actually better than i expected. it is by no means 5 star dinning but it was better than any buffet i had been to at any all inclusive. we ate, strolled around a bit then crashed into bed.....

monday july 18th----got up before the sun and strolled around looking for coffee. the tam has an automatic coffee maker right around the corner from the buffet area...got some coffee and sttled under a palapa to wait for the day to begin. sunrise was beautiful....clear and sunny and perfect weather. let my guys sleep in because we were just laying around this day. noticed the waves were a bit larger than i had ever seen(usually they are ripples). it became a bit cloudy on and off...which was ok with me...hopefully my boys wouldnt become crispy critters.lol hung out all day and then meandered over to the pool for bingo. loved the activities director....learned the bingo balls song....and won a few bottles of wine! son and hubby played football on the beach and had fun. this night we had reservations at Paparazzi restaurant. what a beautiful little place. and they have a nice lounge and indoor bar to sit at. we really enjoyed the meal and liked the food. after dinner hubby and i took the shuttle over to the casino. had some fun...he lost...i won...so we broke even...lol

i will be back later....gotta go do farm chores...horses are waiting....

    Continental-United

This same thing happened to my SIL. She flys alot for business and had a Continental flight and boarding pass for Chicago and went to terminal C--told her it was a United flight and go to their terminal, once there they send her back to terminal C--she just made her flight. We have non-stop on Continental out of Newark tomorrow---if it doesn't go well and you hear a loud scream---that'll be me.

tuesday july 19th--got up early on tuesday and had breakfast at the buffet. the food again was pretty good. then went to pick up the rental car from the hertz counter at the tam. easy pick up...loaded up our stuff and off we went to explore....it was a cloudy/rainy kind of day so we figured we would go to the other side of the island and try to get lost...lol we managed to find the rock formations, they donkey sanctuary, the ostrich farm, and we also found our way to daimari cove/beach. lol hubby was trying to find his way to andicuri beach....we found everything but....and had a ball the whole time!! BULLY......your job is safe...hubby will never be able to navigate aruba! lol i just sat there laughing as we drove all over....the whole time telling him where we were but not where to go....he then found his way to the arikok natural area and we drove thru there....got to see the wind turbines, the prison, cliffs with amazing waves and the caves. we actually got out to swim at boca grandi....it was amazing! the boys had fun in the waves, i got to wath kite surfers and roam around the rocky areas looking at fish and crabs! it was really fun, and the waves were big. somehow the prison overlooking this amazing beach just seems wrong though...if you go to jail...you shouldnt have a view!! lol we then roamed to rodgers beach and baby beach...both beautiful. drove around sint nicolaas and found main street. bully told us about a festival on thursday nights they are doing here...carubbean festival...they do a show that resembles what happens at carnivale time...and have vendors and food and a general good time. thursday nights from 6-10 pm. we then found our way back and relaxed a bit then got ready for dinner at the red parrot. got ready early and went to get a drink and play some pool...met an amazing young boy named nate who told me all about the red parrot and even what to order! he told me they come to aruba every year and he loved the red parrot the best. nate was a blast...and a great kid! nate had some type of either medical condition or handicap, yet i dont think i ever saw or met a person who enjoyed life more...he was the mayor of the tam all week. everywhere you went or looked...nate was there...bingo was the best...i think nate sang the bingo balls song the best!!!

anyway...off to red parrot we went...lol...and nate was right on with his suggestions...i wanted to eat it all...the food was very good and the service perfect! we stayed at the divi a bit and then rode back to the tam...off to bed to get ready for the next day....

What kind of vehicle did you have to get to Daimari? Did you reach it via the coastline or from inland?

I am glad you had a better experience with Hertz than we did.
