wed. july 20--this is an easy day...lounged around all day like slugs(couldnt read because my kindle revolted..i guess it didt like aruba..lol) hubby and son played football on the beach and in the water and son practiced pitching. a man who was walking by asked which college did he play for? i chuckled.....son is 6'1", 250 lbs and 15YEARS OLD!!! when i told the guy that he was shocked...then asked if i knew how fast he threw...yup...80 mile an hour fast ball. he was floored...i was proud!! lol did the bingo again...won some more wine and t-shirts...and just relaxed.
dinner this night we had reservations at madamme janette's!!! i have been so looking foward to this night all year and it did not dissapoint! we actually did a practice run getting there earlier in the week from memory....and we found it on the first shot. we get there a bit early to sit and have a drink and say hi. place was packed as usual....and just as beautiful as i remembered. we get seated and first thing i notice is the menu is way smaller. well not the reular menu...that is the same but the last time we were there their was a whole page of pasta special and a whole page of app specials and then the dinner specials....we convinced son to come with us because he would love their pasta's....he ended up ordering a chicken dish and liked it thank god! he also had a cesar salad. i ordered the bang-bang shrimp as an app and was in heaven.....i so have to start playing with making this at home....then i lost my mind and ordered the special....a whole yellowtail snapper...tempura fried with a sauce that reminded me a bit of the bang bang....OMG!!!! i swear i ate every bite!!! it was one of the best fish dishes i have ever had!! kudos Kasi----that fish will be dreamt about!!!! hubby got the shrimp casserole for app i think....then i believe he had the surf and turf....i was so mesmorized by my fish that i really have no clue what he was eating!!!lol and no i did not share.....
for dessert son got the fried oreos....and he is just in love...lol and hubby and i shared the chocolate souffle. it normally comes with a pumpkin seed ice cream...which i know sounds weird...but i swear that was the best ice cream i have ever eaten!!, tonight though...they didnt have the pumpkin seed ice cream so vanilla it was....still an amazing dessert!!
we then, after dinner drove around the high rise area and just chilled.
it will bring a smile or 2 knowing that the prisoners do not get to enjoy the view of that gorgeous ocean.
nor do they have air conditioning.
they do however have big flat screen LCD tvs, a fully equipped gym, swimming pools and internet access..........NOT.
(just checking to see who is paying attention )
have a good one all.
looking forward to your next installment jane aka nikko!

BULLY......your job is safe...hubby will never be able to navigate aruba! lol i just sat there laughing as we drove all over....the whole time telling him where we were but not where to go....he then found his way to the arikok natural area and we drove thru there....got to see the wind turbines, the prison, cliffs with amazing waves and the caves. we actually got out to swim at boca grandi....it was amazing! the boys had fun in the waves, i got to wath kite surfers and roam around the rocky areas looking at fish and crabs! it was really fun, and the waves were big. somehow the prison overlooking this amazing beach just seems wrong though...if you go to jail...you shouldnt have a view!! lol we then roamed to rodgers beach and baby beach...both beautiful. drove around sint nicolaas and found main street. bully told us about a festival on thursday nights they are doing here...carubbean festival...they do a show that resembles what happens at carnivale time...and have vendors and food and a general good time. thursday nights from 6-10 pm. we then found our way back and relaxed a bit then got ready for dinner at the red parrot. got ready early and went to get a drink and play some pool...met an amazing young boy named nate who told me all about the red parrot and even what to order! he told me they come to aruba every year and he loved the red parrot the best. nate was a blast...and a great kid! nate had some type of either medical condition or handicap, yet i dont think i ever saw or met a person who enjoyed life more...he was the mayor of the tam all week. everywhere you went or looked...nate was there...bingo was the best...i think nate sang the bingo balls song the best!!!
anyway...off to red parrot we went...lol...and nate was right on with his suggestions...i wanted to eat it all...the food was very good and the service perfect! we stayed at the divi a bit and then rode back to the tam...off to bed to get ready for the next day....
thursday----easy day....lounge around...drink....and make fun of the "boobie lady"! yes we had a topless sunbather all week...lol. we also had a large group that was pretty rowdy next to us...all good natured stuff but mix a large rowdy drinking group with a naked lady and it gets interesting real quick...lol by the end of the day boobie ladie was wearing one of the rowdy guys swim bottoms and he was in her bikini bottoms....then all of a sudden the other guys were dropping their shorts and running down the beach naked into the ocean!! lol what happens in aruba......lol
we had to do a ling's supermarked run because we were going deep see fishing in the morning.
thursday nights dinner was at ginger. we definately enjoyed ginger. son said he wished they had more choices but he loved what he ordered. quiet night after that, bed early.
friday july 22---get up at 5am....take seasickness pills....go get coffee and sit outside by the ocean....get my boys up and off we go to the ren marina. we booked with teaser charters. capt kenny and his mate (i think his name was orlando) met us at the dock and we went out on the "kenny's toy" boat. nice boat. now, remember earlier this morning i took those pills....well i do not do well on boats...along with the typical issues i also have a periphreal vision issue...on hubbies and mine last trip to the florida keys we spent a whole day out on a boat exploring...however, exploring around the keys, which is like being on a calm lake....is not the same. lol i tried telling him no so many times but he really wanted me to go with him and son...stupidly i agreed. also....remember earlier in the week i mentioned the waves??? well they increased all week....i was doomed! we get out and i feel it but i am holding my own...the fishing begins and we immediately get a hit from a marlin! which is way off season...so everyone was shocked....we re-baited and trolled around the area to try to lure him in again....while doing this i saw a pod of dolphins!! the leader was huge!!! i havwe never seen dolphins around aruba or heard anyone talk about them so it was really a shock. they stayed with us for awhile....i am still doing ok....we are about 2 hours in at this point. then it starts really rockin-and rolling...we were sideways at one point....the cooler flew across the deck and almost went over! i at that point held on for another hour.....then i went inside to lay down....i only lasted about another 20 minutes....lol "there she blows!!!"....good thing hubby jumped up and got out of the way...not like i needed help to get outside or over the moving cooler or anything while the boat is rocking and rolling....he was safe.(i so wanted to kill him! LOL) at that point we were allready headed back....thank god!!! the capt and mate felt so bad....poor guys.....and after all that....we caught nothing...lol...never again!!!
i got back to the tam and went inside to lay down....i took some advil and fell asleep for an hour. while i was asleep...hubby took son up to the mall to do the wave rider!! omg---i so wanted to see him do that....but i didnt get to(strike two for hubby, well three if you count the outback adventure...lol) they came back and told me all about it and son's wipeouts! sounded like fun...he did eventually get the hang of it and really wanted to go again...
dinner tonight was at palm grill. i was excited....i actually wanted to buy one of those tables for our outdoor patio....i also wanted one installed in my kitchen island when we built the house...i never got one...but i love this type cooking and do it often. first thing was i asked if we could take the protective cover off....i dont want my stuff steamed....told the guy i knew what i was doing....lol then showed him.....then asked if he could get me some soy sauce and a few other things that i know they had at the buffet.....and it began...by the time i was done i had cooked for three families!!! lol it was funny!! we totally enjoyed this!
after dinner son wanted to go to the movies so we brought him to paseo herencia and bought his ticket. he loves seeing a movie when we are there and we usually do a few casino's while he is there. we hit marriott, hyatt, occidental and the radisson. i had a blast casino hopping....hubby not so much!! lol i won...he lost....we just about broke even.
picked son up and back we went. he loved the movie and had fun. off to bed we went....
saturday---SHOPPING DAY! LOL...we went into town early and walked around and shopped. i have a particular jeweler on the island that we go to all the time...we even have ordered stuff from them and have had it shipped...TOUCH OF GOLD....they are great and i will get to them more in a minute. as we were wandering arount looking for t-shirts and souveniers i saw a pair of earring in the kevins jewelry store....blue topaz and sterling silver...fell in love and decided to get them. haggled a bit and got a decent price so the salesman handed them off to the girl to wrap up and off we went...strolled around and finally made our way to touch of gold. last year hubby bought me a beautiful blue and white diamond tennis bracelet from them and i love it. however my wedding set is yellow gold and i didnt like mixing the two so this year i wanted to get a simple white wedding band to wear when i wear my bracelet. well, somehow, i ended up with a gorgeous blue and white diamond wedding band that looks like a wave pattern and the pendant to match!!!(poor hubby---didnt know what hit him...but he was the one that pointed it out!!!) actually he wanted to make up for the awful fishing trip and he got a chuckle out of this ring being a wave pattern(to represent the waves on the trip---like i will ever forget them!!!LOL) the guys at touch of gold are great and their pieces are amazing! they have beautiful stones and really go out of the way to make you happy. we went thru so many rings and different combos...showing me all kinds of stones that we could use(changing out a white diamond engagement ring to a blue stone) it was a great experience as always...the ring and pendant is beautiful and i love them both! thank you touch of gold and i will recommend you to anyone that asks!!! next year i am gonna bring you guys shirts that say----"OH CRAP....HERE COMES THAT HYUNDAI GUY AGAIN!!!!" LOL
after shopping we went back to veg at the tam....walked the beach and i gotta say the waves had taken some of the beach away. it was a beautiful sunny day and i just enjoyed laying around hearing the waves! we stayed to watch the final sunset and then we went in to get ready for dinner. i went to get out my new earrings and to my dismay i found out that a piece of one of the earring was missing!!! i realized that i had done something i have never done...the girl packed them up and i paid and i never checked the box before i left the store! (my fault) so of course by this hour the store is closed and i forgot they are all closed on sunday, the next day. well i have their number and figure i will have to deal with it wheni get home...not to keep you in suspense...i did call monday morning and he already was on it..had called the hotel but we had left already. he is sending it to ny with someone and it will be shipped to me from there...it will take about a week and i will keep you updated on when it gets here...he felt bad and i felt like an idiot. the part of the earring that goes in your ear is separate from the gemstones that hand..they are like a charm hanging from it and when the girl went to put it in the pouch it must have fallen off. he was very apologetic and has promised me the piece...so all is good for now........
back to dinner.....hubby wants gianni's and son wants blossoms. gianni's has always been the last nights dinner so hubby was set on it and son is a chinese food freak and he had his heels dug in....in the midst of all this i realize i hadnt gone by busters to meet mark and thank him for all he did when my mom and aunt got stuck there....so i suggest we go by there and figure out dinner after....we get to buster's and i ask for mark....the girl brings me over to mark and i go to introduce myself and realize i have the wrong mark!!! lol this was his partner mark and i think he thought i was nuts!!! lol we laughed about it for a minute and he told us our mark was down at cafe capri with a soccer team and the place was nutz!!! it sounded crazy....so we got drinks and sat for a bit...the place looks great! then we noticed the pool table.....all week at the tam we were fooling around playing pool....but the tables and balls over there made it interesting....one of the cue balls had flat spots on it...lol so now we have a real table and my hubby gets the bright idea to challenge my son to a game for where we go to dinner...son looks at him and say no way---"but i will play MOM for it!" HEY!!! HOW DID I GET DRAGGED INTO THIS....AND WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOUR GONNA BEAT ME???? so i took the little snot nose on.....poor kid...it was over so fast he didnt know what hit him...lol...hubby just chuckled...ok--two out of three...poor kid still lost and i was even missing shots on purpose until he had a smart remark...then i wiped the table with him....so gianni's it is! lol we got seated right away without a reservation...nice table outside. our waitress didnt understand english to well and messed up our drink order---when we tried to explain he wanted a cranberry and vodka she didnt understand...so we called someone else over and they explained it to her. got our drinks and ordered....hubby got the fried calamari and i got a shrimp cocktail....both really good! son decided to app....he had a pasta for dinner and liked it....hubby got a champagne rissotto with grilled lobster....it was heavenly...i got a whole red snapper with a white wine sauce.(hubby still cant believe eating something that is looking back at me doesnt bother me...nope. not one bit!!!) it was divine...the white wine suace was silky and the fish so freash.....then i got my all time favorite dessert...the ice cream filled profiteroles with chocolate sauce!!! hubby got the tiramisu and he said other than mine...there's is very good!! usually he isnt happy with most he gets...the man is spoiled with mine..lol after dinner we went by the mall area to check out the flow rider...watched a bit then back to the tam to begin packing and cleaning up the room....
sunday i got up early and packed up and then hit the beach for a bit....bully came again to get us and wisk us back to the airport....dont like that part but loved seeing bully again....gave him the wine i won at bingo and told him to enjoy!!! went thru the airport in a breeze and just like that....it was over...................until next year!!! lol
now...onto the hertz part of our program.....after being in that car for a few days i realized it was FILLED....AND I DO MEAN FILLED....WITH ROACHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh holy hell...i about jumped out of the car flying down rt 1 comming back from the high rise area....i was so grossed out...they were everywhere.....we got the hell outta the car as fast as we could....i made hubby, myself and our son all get out of our clothes and throw them all in a bag...no way in heck i was bringing all that into our room....we had towels in the trunk and snorkle stuff in there too.....i went down to the hertz desk and omg the woman was floored....she felt horrible and couldnt believe it.......she is working on getting us compansated...before i slam them i will give the corporation a chance to right this....i have no idea where they came from...maybe someone usuing the car before us brought them in....but with the amount in this car they had been reproducing for awhile!!!! i can actually say i had a "ROACH-COACH"...EEEWWWW!!!!!
Misery loves company so glad to see that Hertz spreads their misery around. <<NOT>> Just know you are not the only one who had a horrible experience with this company in Aruba this summer.
Through experience, in the past with "big name" rental car companies, those in Aruba, though big players here in the U.S., are only franchises in Aruba and that is about as far as you will be able to get.
If you get any sympathy from U.S. corporate, please let me know the name and number of the person you speak to because I would like to have a conversation with them as well.
lisa...for the life of me i dont remember what happened with you and hertz....please tell me you didnt have a roach coach also....lol
by the way....i am pretty sure i spotted your lovely daughter in a picture up at the kids club...was that her?? and thank you again for all the info you provided me with about the tam...i am glad we did it with son...he will be to old next year to do all-inclusive anywhere...it took him a day or two to fully realize what "all inclusive" meant...even though i know we told him over and over....after that i almost felt sorry for them....lolololol
Very possible dd's picture was there. She has spent many a fond memory of that place as well as their staff.
Are you sure your son won't be able to eat and drink $75 worth each day next year. My dd would probably take him on in a challenge.
Hertz I will go into detail in my trip report, but first days rental they said they had no record of the rental though
1. I had confirmed it at the Hertz desk two days prior, and dh had the confirmation in his hand.
2. The second time we rented later on in the week we had the same vehicle which dh had told them needed a new battery when we turned it in earlier in the week. Well of course the battery died.
Luckily we were at the Valero station.
Worst part was being screamed at by an Aruban because the car would not start back up after we had filled up and he was mad I would not move the car.
Dh was inside with one of the clerks calling Hertz for a jump.
I explained the situation to the gentleman and he apologized and waited on line for another pump.
When dh came back out, he and I together pushed the Terios away from the pump to avoid any further angry gaser uppers.
