    Paul and Andrea J. Nov 7 - 21.......trip 30 something 5 or 6?

    November 7 – 21 2014

    Friday Nov 7 Day 1

SWA Orlando to Aruba, smooth, on time! I slept most of the way. Paul had a yr old child behind him being a 1 yr old child
(i really recommend taking a benadryl before flying I slept well )

    Immigration FAST
    Luggage FAST

My carry on was searched at Aruba Customs….no big deal….kind of like the Disney search when going into Disney

    Hot, sunny, slight breeze.

Hans and Denis from TROPIC car rental both met us and the car rental transaction was easy and painless.

Renaissance Ocean Suites: We have stayed here many times over the last 10 or 15 yrs. Over the last 5 years we have stayed here 2 weeks twice a year. All using Interval trades or renting from owners. This time we are on an Interval Trade.

The very nice and friendly, front desk agent put us in a unit……..2436. So we get in, get unpacked and notice no freezer section in the refrigerator, no cooktop, no utensils, very sparsely stocked. I called the front desk and they told me because we were using Interval that was our only choice. I said that was unacceptable as we had reserved a timeshare and that included a kitchen. They told me “this is all we have for you, maybe we can help you find a place elsewhere”. Ok, now Paul is livid and I let him go for it........he rarelly gets flustered, but he was "on".

He said, here is our Interval confirmation…it says we are to have XY and Z and we have none of them. He then asked for Liliana. They were surprised to hear that we knew Liliana and in less than a minute they “found” us a unit,…for the 2 weeks. A real timeshare unit. It is 1506. Recently renovated. Well when all was said and done we got moved in at 7 pm. YAY Paul!

Had take out Hung Paradise for dinner and are vegetating with a glass of wine. It has been a long day.

My opinion……….and I am not a renaissance owner, so i really have no vested interest.
(but i love the renaissance ocean suites so what i an now writing is difficult)
The redo on the rooms leaves a lot to be desired.
The furniture is not only ugly it is uncomfortable, The sofa is vinyl…YUK.
The furniture here, make Ikea stuff look luxurious.
The 2 dining chairs are ugly and uncomfortable.
The walls are marred, chipped, scuffed already.
The floors………is it tile or something like fake tile?
They are scuffed and marked too.
    Carpeting….seriously?
The wall art........looks like magnified stuff growing in petrie dishes.

The refrigerator………1 is the same as always and the other is a chill box where the chill button has to be “pushed in” every 2 hours to keep things chilled. Chilled is subjective….i put the thermometer in there and it is 60. Not so chilled So have to use a cooler to keep stuff COLD using ice.

The bathroom………..dear God what the heck were they thinking?
No matter how you do it, the water from the shower comes out the opening.
So, 2 bath towels must be laid down on the floor.
Water saver toilet………..a pint of water is not adequate for a flush.
No clock in the bedroom. WTH?
Safe is still too high for me to reach.

    Cindy..Rob…what did you think?

Tomorrow when I am not so tired and crabby I may have a better opinion.

Bully and family have terrible upper respiratory virus. We had a very quick visit.

    Til tomorrow.

PS……….Baileys and Diet root beer is my drink of the day

Hmmmm, yes, we are on the same wave length. Our previous visit was similar...
i can't reach sink in bathroom to wash my face, shower floods bathroom, swinging mirrored door very flimsy, furniture wierd!!
So yes, I agree. Hope your food doesn't spoil.
We now own 2 weeks, not 4. Reinvested in Surf Club.

PLEASE enjoy yourself, I am jealous that you are !

Yup. 2506. Facing the main drag. But that's ok.
it is such a shame that this resort is stuck without an owners BOD

As long as you're up high the view is fine.

As for a BOD, you are so very right. It is a great resort despite itself.

Not the best start!! Hope today goes much more smoothly. Good for Paul standing his ground. Do you think you will continue to stay there in the future? My in-laws will be there for 3 weeks in January. I'll have to share your comments.

Well at least you guys are in Aruba. Sorry the Renn isn't up to par, especially with the redo. Baileys and diet root beer sounds different but not terrible and if it gets you through then so be it. Hopefully today will be much better and you guys can get in the Aruba groove. Keep us posted!
