yes, we have been bringing nalgene sport bottles full of iced coffee or iced water, placed deep in our beach bag.
we did see some people with starbucks coffee cups being denied entry onto the boat the other day.
they ended up dumping the coffee out and then boarded the boat to the island.

today, there were quite a few people with 20 oz bottles of coke and eating doritos and pretzels. was a family group of about 8 or 9.
they were somewhat discreet but we were able to see them.
i feel badly that the boat drivers are being required to be enforcers.

today, Tuesday's weather.........winds have come back to Aruba . I am guessing they were on a shopping spree in Miami for a few days.
the day started with clouds and some light showers, but renaissance island stayed dry and the sun came blasting out at about noon.
SUNSCREEN is NECESSARY even in the clouds. I neglected to put on any sunscreen this morning and at 2 pm it dawned on me that my face and shoulders were fried. i am paying for it tonight as i began to crash and feel rotten after dinner from all of the sun.... and we came back to our timeshare without any evening activities.
........and I have a tan. i live in FLA and am in the pool every day for at least 2 hrs. the sun here in aruba is much more intense. #30, repeat every hour. if you feel that you can reduce to #8, don't, try #15 instead.

dentist visit was easy and i have one more appointment on monday.
we had our teeth cleaned and an exam. $37 each a bargain

dinner tonight was at the french steak house at Manchebo Resort, next door to Aruba Beach Club and Bucuti.
We each had grouper blackened, baked potato, salad and glass of chardonnay.

observations.........this is a pretty quiet time on the island. if you are planning an aruba trip, May is a wonderful time to visit.

Keeping in mind the suncreen part even when in shade, bought four bottles of Banana Boat SPF 50 spray(8 OZ bonus bottles) from Walgreens this week. BOGO($10.99) offer in store with $2 coupons tied around the neck of each bottle. Grab as many as you can ..heading to Aruba in 22 days!

if you want to make reservations for the more popular or unique places, then i always recommend folks do make a reservation. if you want a guarantee, make the reservation. (places like Carte Blanche, MJs, Barefoot etc)
we have reservations for MJs and Ruths Chris.
all other places we are winging it. (have not been disappointed)

Weather was hot and breezy and more sun than clouds!
We spent a few hours at Renaissance Island, then back to the pool here at the resort as we had guests visiting for the afternoon
Headed over to Casa Del Mar for a visit with friends before dinner.

Dinner was at LG Smith......wine, salads, filet and baked potato delicious.

We visited Busters at the Trop Casino and had a drink, said hello to Rusty (who was busier than a one armed paper hanger) and then called it a night.

    Thursday:
    sun, steady breezes......weather is delightful.
we spent all morning at Renaissance Island and the water was delightful......82 water temp per the red sail divemaster.

most of the afternoon we spent at the pool and it was pretty quiet poolside.

we still have not gotten to Scott's Brats and it is our plan for Saturday morning!

this evening, we had dinner with friends at Hung Paradise and then walked around the seaport marketplace.
Paul made a donation to the crystal casino and we called it a night

    tomorrow....more of the same

no more sunburns......we did get lax the other day when there were a lot of clouds and forgot to apply sunscreen....plain old negligence.

    Friday May 10

Spent all morning at the Renaissance Island, then back to the resort for some pool and reading time.
The weather today was again mostly sunny with a good stiff breeze.
My Red Sail Sports friend told me the water temp.......today was 79.
Even though a bit cooler than I like, it is still way warmer than Cape Cod in August or Clearwater Beach right now!
Huge goings on at the Renaissance Marina Marketplace.
Just like last year, there is a charitable organization running a "sit in".
There have been 6 people perched on bar stools, up on a platform for now 36 hrs.
Apparently they have sponsors and that is what raises the $$$.
They are given food/drink and bathroom breaks. Local bands are playing and there are crowds watching and patronizing
the bars, restaurants and shops at the marketplace. It is quite busy and congested.
I have been told the sit in continues til Sunday.

    Dinner tonight was at Amadeus.
    Delicious!
We both had salads which were exceptional.
Paul had filet mignon with veggies and potato.
I had chicken schnitzel with veggies and spaetzle.
We did not have room for dessert but the owner, Thomas and his wife sent over an order of protiferoles which
    were wonderful.
We also had a couple of cordial glasses of Lost Symphony, their house liqueur.
Paul drank mine because i drew the short straw as the designated driver.... and i drove directly to the Marriott Stellaris casino where I was very disappointed to see no more craps tables. We actually had a withdrawal from the casino tonight so that means another visit there tomorrow.

and in answer to your question Kath2me.......If we are bringing checked luggage, YES we bring sunscreen from home. If bringing carry on only, we either buy some here at Lings or have some in our timeshare storage box. We had been exclusively using a spray on aerosol sunscreen, but that really leaves us very dry and almost ashy looking. So what we now do, is spray ourselves down head to foot before we put our bathing suits on in the morning with the aerosol...
and then do some touch up with whatever number 15 or 30 lotion i can buy on sale.
then after we shower we lather up with nivea in the blue jar. seems to help keep away the dryness, but the aerosol really does a number on our skin.
I will be damned if i will pay those outrageous prices for Aruba Aloe.
    Is it liquid gold?

    til tomorrow......
