Thanks for posting Rob, sounds like the perfect Aruba trip we all crave. We tried West Deck for the first time this past trip and fell in love. It is on our "we will definitely go back list". Our villa at the Surf Club had been upgraded since last visit, and we were very pleased with it.

randomly they ask people "what's in your bag?"
happened to us a few times.

if you are carrying a cup of "anything" they may ask you to finish it before you get on the boat.

so, what we have been doing lately is putting our water bottles way down in our beach bags.

    it is frustrating.............

They did not look thru our bags. In the past they would stop you if you had a lg cooler type bag

What is the difference between them not allowing you to take a beverage in your hand aboard the boat vs. them seeing you on the beach drinking a beverage? Are you "safe" as long as you can sneak the contraband onto the island or if they see you drinking a bottle of water on the beach will they confiscate it?

    good question

when carrying our DD mugs full of iced coffee at 8 am getting onto the boat....we were told a couple of times NO, by the boat drivers.
once on the beach we were sipping iced water out of our nalgene water bottles, that we had smuggled in the bottom of our beach bags and the restaurant manager/island manager approached us and told us NO.

we smiled,he walked away, we kept the water.

i have never seen anything being confiscated.

and the odd thing.............a few times we see folks boarding the boat with starbucks coffee and starbucks bags of goodies.
nothing has been said to those folks those few times.

i understand it is RENAISSANCE property and private.
i do not understand why they make a stink out of water and iced coffee or hot coffee and non alcoholic beverages that are brought on to the island 2 hours prior to the island's restaurant being opened.

but, i do have to say that i think that the last 2 times there, no one said a word of our iced coffee and or iced water.

i think it puts the boat drivers in a precarious situation.
they are not the beverage police or should be the beverage police.

Hmm...So they ban the beverages before their own facilities are open which does not take a dime out of their own pockets. Nothing like alienating a captive audience. At least it has us "talking" about the Renaissance.
