    RP-umpire's 25th visit to Aruba: March 27-April 10

Four days to go until my 25th visit to Aruba, but with some time on my hands this morning I figured I would start my trip report thread!

    - As usual, I will be staying in my one-bedroom timeshare at Playa Linda -- two weeks in two different units.

    - Flight is on American (first class) from Hartford with an hour-or-so layover in Charlotte.

    - Car rental is with Tropic.

    - For the fifth year in a row, I plan to umpire baseball games while in Aruba. The big piece of luggage with all my umpiring equipment, shoes, uniforms, and some items I have picked up for Aruban umpire friends (it's not easy for them to get umpire-related goods) has already been packed.

I can't wait to reconnect with friends in all of my usual Palm Beach haunts! Let the fun and sun begin!

Do yup u find an hour in Charlotte is plenty of time for the American connection? Thats an option for us and the flight gets in early afternoon.

    Enjoy Playa Linda for us

This is going to be my first time flying through Charlotte. Usually, it's Miami, but the timing of the flight through Charlotte was better for me. I assume the hour connection will be OK, especially since it doesn't look like there will be any weather-related issues flying out of Hartford on Sunday morning.

I don't yet know what games I will be doing. In past years, I have done all levels of the Little League program, mostly Big League (the 16-18 year old age group).

Tracey, I fly through Charlotte all of the time and 1 hour is plenty of time for a connection due to the airports layout.

Well, it has taken until day three of my Aruba trip before I got on here to update my trip report .. but here goes.

I arrived on mid-Sunday afternoon on my flight from Hartford (with a layover in Charlotte). It was a pretty smooth sail (around 10 minutes) through the Happy Flow immigration line. Took a while waiting for my luggage -- two large checked suitcases. After gathering it all, I met my rep from Tropic Car Rental who brought my to my car in the lot. Then, I was on my way to Playa Linda.

As several flights had arrived in a short period, the check-in line at Playa Linda took a while, but soon enough I was into my one-bedroom until for the next week. My room has an ocean view on the Holiday Inn side of the resort. Next Sunday I switch to a room facing the pools and ocean.

The first night was spent reconnecting with friends at The Beach Bar and Smokey's Joes. After a few beers and dinner, I went back to the room and got unpacked and settled in.

Here's what the unpacking of my second piece of luggage looked like. All my umpiring equipment, shoes and uniforms:

Later, it was off to the Hyatt Casino for a slightly over-budget donation. It was nice to reconnect with my many friends there despite the loss.

From the time I woke up at the airport hotel in Hartford (way too early) until I called it a night at the casino was just short of 24 hours.

    More Later ...

    thanks for sharing.

sorry to hear that you made a donation and not a withdrawal from the hyatt.

will you be umping any "marlins" games?
my friend's young son (age 12 ) is on the marlins.
