I am a smoker myself, but I also usually notice if an area is smoky or not -- and the Crystal didn't seem to be bad that afternoon.

How annoying that the machines don't print tickets anymore. Is it a security issue?

A $200 payout by hand is truly annoying..... not that I wouldn't want the money... it's just torture waiting.

I like the casino because I have a lot of friends there, but they really need to invest some money into their machines. I would love to see bartop machines. The old ones are there, but they haven't been turned on in years. It's also a bit annoying in having to be sure to have older $100 bills. They haven't upgraded their machines to accept the newer Benjamins.

I love the bar tops at the Hyatt.... never got a royal, but hit 4 dueces for $1,000 5 times on our first visit...! Then a few years later stopped by when staying at the Radisson and hit 4 dueces on the machine in front of me and hit it again on the machine beside me while awaiting payout on the first!

The Hyatt is where I spend the most of my casino time. I have put in a lot of time of those bartop video poker. My $12,000 royal was there two years ago.

Day four started with a highlight moment of the day -- breakfast at Scott's Brats. Scott and Leslie have gone into semi-retirement -- working only Wednesdays -- so it was great to see and reconnect with them.

A few hours at the pool was followed by an afternoon nap of about two hours -- much needed and my first such nap this trip.

I made a late afternoon visit to the Excelsior Casino at the HI and left with a nice blackjack win. After a visit to Smokey Joe's for dinner, I made my way to the Hyartt Casino. I pulled a win of about $800 at blackjack there, but I gave about half my profits back before the night was out. I still had my first winning night, so here's to building upon that and getting close to breaking even.

    More to come......

Hard to believe six days are in the books!

I am umpiring a noon-hour game on Saturday to open my 43rd year of umpiring. I am the plate umpire at Duracell Field (near the Balashi plant). It is a Senior League LL game (14-16 year-olds). Can't wait!

In anticipation of umpiring, I called it a day early to have a shutdown night, doing nothing in my suite except focusing on my opening game tomorrow (and coming here to update my trip report).

I haven't kept up daily with trip reports, because I have followed my usual, boring daily routine of a good breakfast, a few hours at the pool or beach, an afternoon nap, a few beers at The Beach Bar, followed by Casino/Dinner/Casino evenings.

So far Wednesday has been my only good day (aka "winning" day) at the casinos. Mostly I have kept my gambling within budget so far, but I could use another good day or two. I have made a couple of visits to ATMs (so as not to be carrying too much money at any one time). I am happy to report that ATMs -- at least in the resort areas -- are working as they always did until late last year when there were problems getting US dollars from ATMs.

One of the highlights of the last few days was Wednesday's breakfast at Scott's Brats. That's the day that Scott and Leslie work in their "semi-retirement", so it was great to reconnect with them. I am sure I will be there next Wednesday as well.

More observations and trip reports to come soon....

Thanks so much RP for taking the time to keep us informed.

Did Scott and Leslie fill you in on what is keeping them occupied during this new semi retirement?

Have fun and thank you so much for your dedication to the game and to the ball players of aruba!

    Play Ball!

Both Scott and Leslie agree they're loving it. I didn't get much of a chance to talk in depth, because -- as you can imagine -- a lot of folks are stopping by to greet them. In one day, all of their many friends all have to pay their visits.
