Congratulations on sharing this wonderful event! However, shame on those that turned on the lights. This could scare the turtle into returning to the sea and laying her eggs in the water, thus losing out on a whole next generation that would otherwise return to the same spot to nest.
These very pictures illustrate the reason why local environmental groups (and longtime guests that want to preserve their home away from home) are protesting the building of new hotels near the Fisherman's Huts (Fairmont among others is lobbying for this spot) and the expansion of Tierra del Sol at the Arashi beach. The last remaining open beaches need to be protected.

Along the beaches you will see red and white barriers set up: these are to protect the turtle nests.

Sea turtle

A few years ago at the Bucuti my wife & I got to see a nest of turtle eggs hatch out and about 80 little ones swam up out of the sand and headed for the water. There was a local naturalist present and all the help the little turtles received was protection from the birds. We both decided that this was one of the most remarkable things we have ever seen. Since then we have seen the barricades marking the turtle nests but have not been lucky enough to see the hatching.

Hi All..Just back from our first time trip to Aruba ( but not our last ). What a beautiful place( but, not what i expected). We enjoyed several excursions...my favorite being the Aruba Safari Adventure tour...to see the island in all its natural beauty was well worth it. We enjoyed alot of good food...one of my favorites was Texas De Brazil and Iguana Joes. We stayed at the Marriott Stellarus and it was a great hotel with exceptional staff. We enjoyed several of the Casinos but, we did the best at Excelsior in the Holiday Inn. I got a kick out of all the Iguanas on the island and took so many pictures of them. We rented a car from Royal and they were good to us also. Overall a great time and will look forward to going back again in the future. This message board helped quite a bit before we went. Will maybe try and AI next time. And that was my trip
