    Thank you to the forum

My wife and I returned from Aruba on Thursday the 11th of November and after 6 years of absence, fell in love with the island again. I had originally asked for beach suggestions as we were staying in an apartment and not at a beach hotel and two of you suggested Moomba and Reflexions. I'd like to give my experiences at both for future travelers:

Moomba started out fine for us. We went there on Friday, October 27th and Sunday, October 29th. We took 2 chairs close to the edge of the Holiday Inn building so we could sort of pull them away from the crowd. For 30 years of traveling to the Caribbean, we always bring a collapsible cooler with us with water, beer, fruit and ice. Our "beach boy" was a new hire by the name of Leon who was wonderful. He would come by to see if we were ready for a drink or lunch but not where we were pressured at all. We did order 2 rounds of drinks from him and lunch from the restaurant both of these days and left him a 20% tip. We returned to Moomba on Tuesday the 31st and Leon was off. We took our same 2 chairs and had our cooler with us as usual. One of the beach boys came over wearing a green shirt and a Fedora and said, "You need 2 chairs?" We said yes and he then proceeded to say, "You brought your own drinks? There are no coolers allowed on this beach. You can cover it with something but you can't take anything out of it." We said we would be buying some drinks from the bar and lunch but he wouldn't budge. We said Leon didn't say anything of the sort and he said, "He wasn't doing his job." So we promptly left Moomba never to return and gave all of our remaining beach business to Reflexions.

The staff at Reflexions were wonderful and we met the owner, Jorge. Chairs are $6 each for the whole day and an umbrella $6. Padded double loungers with wind shield are $25 for the day. It didn't matter if you ate or drank anything there. The water is calm and the bottom all sand. They also have a shower and a swim-up bar pool. Frozen drinks are $8 and at Happy Hour (4-6 pm every day), they are half price. They run a tab for you for the whole day and you pay (cash or CC) before you leave. They play club type music but not overly loud. We enjoyed it tremendously. We tipped the same 20% and gave Reflexions the rest of our beach business and a glowing review on Trip Advisor.

Thank you for your help. We will be returning to Aruba at the end of April 2018 and we will visit Reflexions again.
    Regards,
    Dan

Thank you for sharing. I do not know how Moomba can enforce the no cooler policy as all beaches are public and coolers are allowed.

it is next door to barefoot, downtown.
directly across the street from talk of the town.
reflexions is a bar restaurant beach club located on surfside beach.

Agree...we always carry a cooler too. We politely would have told them to "stick it" and stayed until we were ready to leave.

As far as I know, all beaches are public and they should have not said anything to you. I'd would have asked to see the manager and then if given a hard time, left and let them know, I'd never come back and that I would post my experience in every forum-like here, trip advisor, etc, FB.

Reflexions Beach Bar/restaurant does have a sign up that says (and i am not quoting word for word)
    Chairs $6
    Parasols $6
more pricing for other kinds of lounges
and...... no outside food or beverages allowed.

i asked jorge about this and he said that is correct.
if you are renting our chairs and umbrellas, then the rules need be followed.
BUT.... no big deal if you do bring some water and snacks to eat on the beach... and then he winked.
we always ate lunches there in the restaurant area, but did bring a small soft sided cooler with fruit and ice water and we were discreet.

my interpretation is keep it on the beach and do not go up to the restaurant section to eat the stuff you brought.

Jorge from reflexions did tell one of my friends when she asked about bringing food......... he said you would not bring your own food to a restaurant whould you?

I'm sorry you had that issue with Moomba, but happy to hear you had a great experience with the rest of your trip
