As for West Deck, scenery is great, food not so much.
Our little family and extended family all grew up on the island so they think "that's Aruba".
Anyway, continue on at PL and enjoy your anniversary.
I kept thinking, oh man Cindy is going to be disappointed that we didn't love it. I'm really glad we went though and experienced it for ourselves. And frankly, we needed a relaxing and mellow day.

Peg, I loved the flamingos and hopefully some of my pictures turn out. That was the biggest draw for us to get out there. We went back and forth between the sides quite a bit.
Not sure when, but we will be back

We also stopped by Blu Bar. I loved the look of the place but we felt it was just a little on the fancy side for us, we are more of the dive bar type. It's so pretty there at night tho all lit up, just not our scene.

Peg - I couldn't agree with you more and god knows I've been guilty of it. A lot of things have to align for a "perfect" night as we've all seen from vastly different reviews on a lot of restaurants.

Tracey - I find it's best if you just walk around in pools and the ocean - that way, if you fall, no problem. A tip from my friend Missy Margarita after she's paid one too many visits.

Happy anniversary (yay today is the real date)

i am glad that you got to experience the downtown, the island and all that goes with it.

i love the renaissance ocean suites and the island, but everyone marches to a different drummer has different expectations, dreams and wants.
my husband on the other hand, has a list of things that annoy him about the ocean suites and the island.

one of the things that makes this forum great is that we are a diverse bunch, we all try to say it like it is with respect, and listen to each others comments.
i know none of us agree on the same things all of the time and that is what makes it interesting.

sure, i would have loved to have read that you folks loved the downtown and the renaissance island. but i love more that you were honest in your observations and felt comfortable enough giving a complete and honest review.

tracey please stay on both feet

    enjoy

I see you got bruised up on this vacation just like me and like you, I was sober. LOL Came back with scratches and black and blue on my torso.

I've been curious about the Renn but I think like you, I would only enjoy it for a day or two and would not like dinning downtown except for a few places like Gostoso and I would try Don Jacinto for Colombian food.

West Deck for me is fun for lunch to grab some ice cold beer, grouper fingers, conch fritter and I got to try that aruban dish Kesha Yena which is like a lasagna but shredded chicken with gouda cheese. When I went there in May, I saw some people with luggage so either they had just arrived or had a late flight. I think that would be a nice start to a vacation to go there for lunch from the airport if you arrive around noon being that most hotels don't have the room ready until 4pm anyway so might as well get off to a nice start than waiting around a hotel lobby.

Friday spent getting as much beach time as we can

There is not much to report for this day. After a morning walk and our breakfast at Bugaloe (reviewed in Culinary), we spent the day doing what we love: sitting at the beach, floating, listening to music and ejoying cocktails. We had some clouds off and on but overall a nice day.
Lunch was a quick walk to Scotts Brats where we tried the Italian Beef sanwiches. They were huge and we could have shared.
Later in the afternoon, Jon had is daily ceviche from the Azzuro beach server.
We went for a walk around the outdoor Palm Beach mall area just poking around.
We stopped over at a favorite of ours, Che Bar for empandas and beer. They had a devastating fire earlier this year but have rebuilt and expanded their bar seating. They also have tables. Its an Argentinean grill basically. Their beef empanadas are excellent. After a day of eating, that was all we needed for dinner. We did experience problems using the atm in the mall area, and Che Bar's credit card machine was having issues too. There seemed to be some type of outage. We tried again later at another atm and everything was fine. I only bring this up because once we needed an atm on our last day for taxi fare and experienced a similar brief outage which gave me a little panic as we were trying to leave. So now I always keep cash stashed away just in case we have any issues...which I probably should have been doing all along, I'm just not used to having cash on me, but lesson learned.
Our plan was to go see the Joyride band at Sand Bar at 9, but we never made it. Our hangout spot this trip has been Playa Linda Beach Bar. They had some good upbeat music and we've always met great people to talk to. The night ended here for us.

I can't believe today will be our last full day...where does the time go???
Not sure when, but we will be back
