    Day 6 , great day,with a few disappointing moments.

I may have to stop counting the days, its starting to make me sad.

Today started with breakfast at Matthews at Casa del Mar. I was a little surprised that our taxi driver didn't know where it was. We found it easily after first checking at Costa Linda...I knew it was one of the C timeshares. We ran into Scott and Leslie, which was a nice surprise. The service was excellent, breakfasts were good all around, and the prices very reasonable. We will go back when we move to the low rise area. I am starting to love pastechi now. I had ham and cheese ones and they were so good! I had them ealrier this week at Jacks cafe inside super foods too. Casa del mar looks nice. For anyone looking for a place in the low rise area close to the beach and walking distance to a few shops and a casino, this may be for you. We also noticed higher than average lounge, chairs by the pool. For those who have trouble get out of the low loungers this could be another nice perk.
From here we took a taxi downtown. Our first timer friends have noticed that there is not much aruban culture to be found, other than the pleasant people of course. The trip downtown was probably a mistake. I wanted them to see the colorful buildings and get the dowtown experience. They were hoping to see some Aruban shops other than just tourist trinket stores. Well there were 3 cruise ships in port. Things were pretty busy, and traffic was crazy. It was really hot. There wasn't much to see that gave off a Caribbean feel so we taxied back to the Radisson. The guys took naps and the ladies met at the pool to cool off and chat.
One good thing to note about the Radisson is that the bridge that crosses it gives a nice shady area. We arent usually pool people and we love the beach, but I needed shade today so that was a huge plus to be in the water and have shade. The pool here is definitely one of the best parts of the resort.
Our plans for the evening included drinking so we wanted a bite to eat before happy hour. Since I was going to the BB happy hour we decided to try passions lunch menu. I really dont know how to describe the food. It could have been great, but the stench of the sewer plant ruined any hope of a positive experience. It was like sitting inside a hot dirty out house trying to enjoy your sandwich. The prices were high too. I am very nervous about our stay at Amsterdam Manor later this week. There are people who rave about this place and go on and on about the good, but never mention this. It makes me wonder what's in it for them and are they truly unbiased? I will never recommend Passions again unless I hear of a permanent solution. The food and atmosphere there is nice but just the chance that someone going there on my recommendation and having a similar experience, I would feel terrible.

Enough of the bad, the highlight of this part of the day was meeting Andrea and Paul! I was nervous, meeting cyber friends in real life so I probably talked their ears off, but it was great to sit and chat with down to earth people who love a lot of the same things we do. We can't wait to try the frozen pea trick for the, fish when snorkeling. Hopefully our paths will cross in aruba again someday!
Next stop was the Hyatt casino for a small donation. There was some up and down and hovering around even but while waiting for our friend we gave too much back. Our friend had a night on the plus side which was great. One of the roullette dealers remembered us, which while comforting to see a familiar face, also makes me think we spend too much time in casinos!
Tonight's goal was to enjoy some music drinks and a little night life. We have all been joking about Senor Frogs all week so we stopped in for a drink and a little cheesy fun. I think we are officially over our Senor Frog days. I could see it being fun with the right group but the drinks are expensive and the "fun" feels forced.
Next stop the piano bar Sopranos for us, Casa Tua for our friends. They loved the pozza and would recommend it for both taste and value. Once they joined us at Sopranos the night became really fun. The singer this month is from Chicago and she is talented but the constant reminders from her about tips and how to get your request played faster was a big turn off. She did play some of our favorite songs though. We had fun but decided to check out the band at Hard Rock. We got their last 30 minutes and wished we had come over sooner. I have seen this band before but I dont know their name. Its 2 guys and a little lady who can nail Guns n roses and the falcetto parts in any Pharell song.
One thing, I know we have a lot of visitors from Boston, and I am a little jealous that your city has its very own theme song. But in the last 2 days I feel like I have heard Sweet Caroline about 15 times. Last night one lady who paid $20 at the piano bar to hear it then made her way to the Hard Rock and pretty much demanded the band play it there too. She was having fun though, and its vacation so thats what its all about.
Another great day, but I miss our relaxing days on the beach. We have to get back to those soon!

I forgot to mention, we have stopped by the Sand bar near Sopranos a few times. It had some good, mentions on Trip Advisor, but it has been empty each time. I dont know of it only good on certain nights or if it more of an after hours place but for those looking for the 10pm time frame, it may not be for us, unless we are just missing something.

Thanks for the update. We have dinner scheduled at Passions later this week and now I'm questioning if we'll go. Thanks for the insights.

You will know right away when you get there. From what I hear this smell in not the norm, but if you arrive and smell it I would leave. You could always go and see how it is that day, but have a backup plan

Tracy, I'm really enjoying your reports. Your details on the Radisson are very helpful with our upcoming trip. I hope you hear something from AM soon to put your mind at ease.

Agree with you on that, maybe depends on the timing of their "treatment" and wind direction etc. We always stay in AM, spend whole day on the beach and dine at passions but never noticed it being so bad. I smell it once ina while when I am out sipping my rum on the balcony.

    Thanks for sharing Tracey!
I am looking forward to reading your story daily!!

It is really really "weird " meeting "cyber friends " but paul and i were so comfortable with you fine folks!
The STINK really put a damper on our time!
We have met so many people thru the Aruba forums in Aruba! Only one bad experience ....and it was just
ridiculous. We met a woman and her hubby at a BB gathering at Amsterdam Manor ....and they were just so full of themselves
it made us feel just lousy and uncomfortable and incredibly bored. She, while speaking to us was looking around to see if there were "better or more important" people she should be speaking to. We bid our adieus after a brief stay, left our drinks and bolted.

    Continue to have a blast!

Tracey, I have been to the AM many times to hang out and have stayed at La Cabana next door many times for 2 week stays. I have never been able to smell the treatment plant. Hope it's remedied before you get there.

Sounds like you guys are having a blast! We want to thank you for taking the time to write your reports. We want you to know there are allot of us out there who read these posts but don't have a comment, even though we all love reading them. We feel like we tasted a little piece of Aruba reading yours and everyone else's trip reports.

Thanks Jacki, it does help that people are sharing better experiences. We will be fine either way. We arent going to move till late tomorrow so we will enjiy Palm Beach one more day, then we can always go to other beaches if its bad. One lesson learned is that I will be much more cautious 3rd party booking sites and non refundable rooms for a while. Its not worth the stuck feeling we have right now. Keeping the faith that it was an anomaly.
Not sure when, but we will be back
