We struggle with that decision every year. I love low season (less crowded, cheaper rentals) but being here in high season and avoiding all the winter weather in the north east is almost priceless. We're traditionally done two weeks in low season (end of November) and two in high season (now mid to end of February).

Maybe try Surf Club in low season and somewhere else in high season...?

If you just want shade its not an issue but I like looking at the water.
Heh. You could go all "Carnival" on her. LOL

Its strange here, you even have to wait in line for the paid reservation. I like the Radisson's system best. You can pay anytime of day and even the back rows, you can still see the water. I dont mind the early morning line since I am awake anway, but I cant see waitong in line to pay to reserve for 2 days to be in a spot where I cant see the water. I feel like I am making a bigger deal out of this than it really is. Ive waited in line on previous trips and it didnt bother me. At 5am I just didnt need to be , lectured on how the line works by a lady saving spaces for other people. The last 2 days I have met some other really nice people in line and passed the time with good conversations and island tips.

Lol....it was very close, but then I looked around and remembered where I was and Ive seen too many episodes of locked up abroad! I decided just to ignore her and enjoy the breeze.
I think Andrea and Peg have it figured out. We will probably time our visits in early November and sometime in the spring going foward.

Next time ask her if she's ever seen Reese Witherspoon in "Election"...

    There's ALWAYS a queen.

Good for you for taking the high road. I doubt I'd be that calm so the resorts aren't for me!!

Hope you've recovered from the 12 hour binge. But there is no better place to be to recover.

I've always liked the Holiday Inn system of choosing your palapa in the afternoon for the next day. After hearing your story and others, I'm starting to fret over our decision to rent from an owner at Playa Linda this year instead of staying at the HI. It was over $1000 cheaper, so almost a no-brainer. However, PL does the palapa thing like the Surf Club, and I hear people are up at 5 to get in line. WE ARE NOT MORNING PEOPLE. I don't sleep til noon, but I certainly do not get out of bed at 5. Although, it is a little different for me in Aruba, I seem to get up and out a little earlier so as not to miss any beach time. And, I heard they will be renovating the pool starting in April. I hope they mean mid or late April because there goes the opportunity for those shade umbrellas. I haven't been able to get an exact date that the pool will be closed, but I keep looking for info.

I'm hoping not to be stuck out in the sun all week. I'm pretty sure you can see the water even from their back rows so that doesn't bother me.

Enjoy your last hours of sun and sand and bring some of that warmth back north with you!

    Trip wrap up

The last couple days of the trip were pretty uneventful. We enjoyed the sun, sand, and sea, along with some good food and drinks. We had breakfast at Taste of Belgium and Dushi Bagels, both were good and I would go again. Dinner Friday night was good and we enjoye that it was served on a hot stone at Le Petit Cafe. Saturday was sushi at the Marriott hotel that was just okay. We really just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. I gave up the palapa battle and we rented a front row umbrella for our last full day. It was $40, so its not something I would do every day but it was worth it for the last day. Saturday was a great day for the fisherman, we saw some nice catches being brought in. Had we seen this earlier in the week, we probably would have gone out. We walked down to the kite surfing area and watched for a bit. The beach at the Ritz was empty, not sure whats going on but there may have been 10 couples max on the beach. We had a few rain showers that morning so maybe that contributed. The funniest thing about the rain showers was watching people scurry out of the pool and run for cover. I dont get that at all. The morning rain made way for a beautiful afternoon and sunset.
We spent a lot of time on our balcony listening to music amd enjoying drinks. Now that we have had the great view, it will be hard to go back to a standard room. I never thought I would say that because until now we havent spent a lot of time on our balcony. For us I think the cost may even out. Instead of going to happy hours the last couple days, we made our own on the balcony. At the pool bar we had a band playing classic rock that we liked. I am pretty sure they were the same band playing happy hour at Casa Del mar when we got to Matthews for dinner. If I find their name I will share it, they were good. I forgot to mention the lazy river. Our afternoon routine was to stop by there on our way back from the beach. The swimway papsans were perfect. This was definitely the most laid back of all of our trips, and I loved every minute of it.

Now for my favorite part, our bests and worsts:
Best moment: Aruba Bob Snorkelling, by far. We didnt do any other excursions but this rates right up there with renting the side by side atvs on our last trip. This is our favorite water activity to date.

    Best breakfast:
    Jon: Scotts Brats
    Tracey: Taste of Belgium

    Best lunch:
Jon: tie...Bugaloe grouper sanwich and Arubian wings from Marriott pool bar
Tracey: tuna steak lunch special at Moomba

    Best dinner:
    Food: Quinta del carmen
    Atmosphere: Matthews Beachside

    Favorite drink:
    Tracey: Orange Cosmo at QDC
Jon: Rasberry Absolut and sprite he made on the beach

Casino atmosphere (nothing to do with winning):
    Best Marriott Stellaris
    Worst Occidental

    Appetizers:
Jon: Pelicans Nest grouper and shrimp cocktail
    Tracey: Empanadas at Che Bar

    Biggest disappointment
Tracey: the palapa situation at the Surf club and the cluttered beach. Cluttered with empty chairs, even though it wasnt crowded with people
Jon: Wacky Wahoo. He says the food was good but he was expecting better based on the reviews and us not being able to get a decent reservation time in the past.

    Favorite happy hour:
Tracey: our first night at Pelicans Nest.
Jon: on our balcony listening to music

Great trip all around for us! We have a late flight today so we hope to squeeze in few more hoirs of beach time.

Can't believe your vacation is already wrapping up. Certainly sounds as though it was fun and relaxing. So when is your next trip? I'll be missing your reports!
