Wish th work weeks would go by as fast as the vacation weeks! Our plan is to celebrate our 5th anniversary here in Aruba in December. This last day here is no fun. We decided to jist lounge around and avoid sunblock and wet bathing suits but now it feels like we are wasting the whole day. We are checking out soon and going to walk around Palm Beach for a bit and soak up the sun before heading back to sleet and freezing rain tonight.
Not sure when, but we will be back

safe and easy travels home later today.

We had breakfast at Taste of Belgium and Dushi Bagels, both were good and I would go again. Dinner Friday night was good and we enjoye that it was served on a hot stone at Le Petit Cafe. Saturday was sushi at the Marriott hotel that was just okay. We really just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. I gave up the palapa battle and we rented a front row umbrella for our last full day. It was $40, so its not something I would do every day but it was worth it for the last day. Saturday was a great day for the fisherman, we saw some nice catches being brought in. Had we seen this earlier in the week, we probably would have gone out. We walked down to the kite surfing area and watched for a bit. The beach at the Ritz was empty, not sure whats going on but there may have been 10 couples max on the beach. We had a few rain showers that morning so maybe that contributed. The funniest thing about the rain showers was watching people scurry out of the pool and run for cover. I dont get that at all. The morning rain made way for a beautiful afternoon and sunset.
We spent a lot of time on our balcony listening to music amd enjoying drinks. Now that we have had the great view, it will be hard to go back to a standard room. I never thought I would say that because until now we havent spent a lot of time on our balcony. For us I think the cost may even out. Instead of going to happy hours the last couple days, we made our own on the balcony. At the pool bar we had a band playing classic rock that we liked. I am pretty sure they were the same band playing happy hour at Casa Del mar when we got to Matthews for dinner. If I find their name I will share it, they were good. I forgot to mention the lazy river. Our afternoon routine was to stop by there on our way back from the beach. The swimway papsans were perfect. This was definitely the most laid back of all of our trips, and I loved every minute of it.

Now for my favorite part, our bests and worsts:
Best moment: Aruba Bob Snorkelling, by far. We didnt do any other excursions but this rates right up there with renting the side by side atvs on our last trip. This is our favorite water activity to date.

    Best breakfast:
    Jon: Scotts Brats
    Tracey: Taste of Belgium

    Best lunch:
Jon: tie...Bugaloe grouper sanwich and Arubian wings from Marriott pool bar
Tracey: tuna steak lunch special at Moomba

    Best dinner:
    Food: Quinta del carmen
    Atmosphere: Matthews Beachside

    Favorite drink:
    Tracey: Orange Cosmo at QDC
Jon: Rasberry Absolut and sprite he made on the beach

Casino atmosphere (nothing to do with winning):
    Best Marriott Stellaris
    Worst Occidental

    Appetizers:
Jon: Pelicans Nest grouper and shrimp cocktail
    Tracey: Empanadas at Che Bar

    Biggest disappointment
Tracey: the palapa situation at the Surf club and the cluttered beach. Cluttered with empty chairs, even though it wasnt crowded with people
Jon: Wacky Wahoo. He says the food was good but he was expecting better based on the reviews and us not being able to get a decent reservation time in the past.

    Favorite happy hour:
Tracey: our first night at Pelicans Nest.
Jon: on our balcony listening to music

Great trip all around for us! We have a late flight today so we hope to squeeze in few more hoirs of beach time.

We would rent at the Surf Club again if the price was right for an ocean view. And we would have to strongly consider the time of year. Its so hard to turn down a rental at less than $1000 for the week. I wwant to try Playa Linda and maybe the Ocean Club first.

I've done it both ways on our last day. In swimsuit/sunscreen/sweatin on the beach, or showered/dressed/packed wondering around Palm Beach. I prefer the swimsuit on the beach til the last possible minute. We'll be at the Playa Linda in 5 weeks, I'll let you know how it goes and how the papala situation works out.

Tracey, thanks so much for sharing your trip with us. I really enjoyed the best/worst list. We own at Surf Club and try to go just after Labor Day. We have found this to be a good time for us as the crowds are low due to American kids going back to school. Sorry about the palapa situation. We always get seats by the pool/lazy river and just wander down to the beach and kind of hang out. We find the wind on the beach a distraction at the palapas, and of course the added sand to the food and drinks doesn't help. We are staring to plan our trip for this year a little later than usual, we are usually done planning in February for a September trip. Thanks again for taking us with you!

I am interested to know how it goes at Playa Linda. Thats on our list of possible places to stay.
As I sit in the crying room at the airport I regret our decision not to get in the water today, but lesson learned for next time.

You know what got me was that the beach wasnt even that crowded. If they removed 1/2 of the unused chairs or even stacked them near the back it wouldnt be so bad. I will post a few pictures when I get home.

Thanks so much for sharing all the details of your trip. I can not imagine dealing with lines and palapa reservations. Becoming more & more thankful that we stay on Eagle beach during the summer months.

Hope your trip home went well!
