Day 3... The timeshare hounds! OMG, they are everywhere! After some pool time we finally gave in for their 90 minute presentation, which included lunch at the Double Down. Two and a half hours we parted ways, but I don't think they're done with us yet! Went to the Glitz for quite sometime, ended up losing a bit, so we had to sit for a few more free drinks to get closer to breaking even...bummer. We took a night drive around the North side of the island to pass the time and take in a sunset. Mostly a relaxing day. Oh, the Tropicana did comp us two free breakfasts at the Double Down and two free drinks at the Bikini Bar for our inconvenience, without us asking at all. We are in a renovated room and the A/C works great. We have a ground floor room in the East Tower, close to the Tropicana Casino. Their is no wifi signal in the room and barely on the patio. Supposedly they are rebuilding their wifi network, with the best reception currently by the North Tower. The weather so far has been great, with nice breezes and no rain.
It sounds like you are settling in and the room is good at this point, right? I hope your next 2 weeks are amazing and you don't even remember the way your trip started when it ends. I am glad you are back to "Aruba" weather.
Seems like the "Comedy of Errors" did not stay at the airport, it followed you to La Tropaciana. As I read you post on your check-in and your first night all I could say was, "OHHHH NOOOOOO!!!" and "OHHH GOOOSSSHHH!!" Look at it this way, it could be worse. You could be staying at the Coconut Inn out in Noord. The AC units in the rooms date back to the late 1980's, the one in my room would make this high pitched whistling sound at 2:45 am in the morning and I would have to hop out of bed to give it a "Gentle" tap to make the noise stop. Where if you wanted a warm shower you had to wait till sometime between 11:00 am to 3:00 pm to do so; and where at the complementary breakfast you are limited to one helping.
Hopefully the "Comedy of Errors" has run its course and everything is on the up and up for the remainder of your stay. Enjoy!!
Day 4. We're back in the groove. Our morning and early afternoon are pretty much the same, with gym, pool and casino to start the day. We stoped at the Bikini Bar for a noon Happy Hour. Everything on the bar is 1/2 price. I think others have mentioned that the specialty drinks don't quite come out right and that hasn't changed. Luckily I mostly drink out of can or bottle. Not so lucky for the bride. The Glitz was a little nicer to us today. At least we walked out ahead and had a number of free beverages. We went to Red Fish for an early dinner. This was our third time there over the years and the food is still consistent and reasonably priced. Accept for an occasional fly, let's face it, you're eating outside, we have no complaints. Took in an evening sunset and retired early. We're definitely in vacation mode now.
Day 5. Our ordinary start for the day. For dinner we tried the Chicken and Lobster. We definitely experienced some opening errors but we're good with that. One waitres was serving bread and another wasn't. The wind blew my beer bottle over but I guess that was my mistake, as I should have poured it in the provided glass. They had an all you can eat chicken special for $24. It included half a chicken, two wings, chicken soup that was to salty for my taste but might be fine for others, two chicken sliders and two side dishes, of which I chose the baked potato and mixed vegetables. I passed the baked potato to the wife and ate another half a chicken. The wife had a lobster dish that she enjoyed. We'd go back again. From there we walked over to the Hyatt Casino. It wasn't so kind to us but I did get to see one women win $600 on a machine and then hit it again for another $300. Nice to see somebody win. Strolled around the Palm Beach area for a bit then called it a night.
Day 6. Had to do some work this afternoon after the morning ritual, so we walked over to the Double Down to use the internet. It is solid there and fairly fast. The place itself was going nuts with Sunday football. They had multiple games on and people were screaming everywhere. I grabbed a corner booth with a beer and the bride went into the casino. Life is good. Nice to work with a couple of cold drafts in Aruba. Packed up and headed to the Pega Pega Bar for Happy Hour, another one of our favorites. We decided to grab a lite bite to eat and it was a good thing we did. I thought it used to be 5-6 but it was 5-7. That extra hour would have done us in without a little food in the old bellys Those bartenders sure know how to free pour. Ouch! Also had another up day at the Glitz.
Boca Catalina, Arashi Beach Manchebo Beach, Eagle Beach
Glad to hear that all of the "incidents" seem to have quieted down, and that now you are in vacation mode. No trip to Aruba would be complete for us without a visit to see our favorite bartender, Nacio, at Pega Pega. We also love their generous pours.
