    Trip #9. 11/28-12/14/15

Well here it is Sunday, around noon, and it is pouring. What a better time to start a trip report.

Friday as was packing day, and we have it down to a science. It literally takes us 45 minutes to gather our things and put them in our carry on's. Really doesn't qualify as a packing day.

We we had an early departure out of Syracuse, 5:30 AM, so it was up at 2:45 to get ready for the flight...ugh.

Our departure and and connecting flight in Washington were right on schedule and we landed in Aruba at 12:30, 1:30 Aruba time. There wasn't much of a line at immigration, the bride went through Happy Flow, my older passport didn't qualify, so I was ushered to the dreaded next line. It wasn't to bad, as it only took twenty minutes to reach the lobby.

Ricky from Wheels2go was waiting with our sign in hand. He's always on time and their cars have been in very good condition. Highly recommend them.

We went right to Price Smart to grab a few things. The place was mobbed! Must be Saturday is a big shopping day. From there we went to our condo to unload. Next was Jolly Pirates, to get some tickets to the lion fish festival on Sunday. They were closed and we were told that it was already sold out, but to try early tomorrow morning. We still needed a few more items that weren't in bulk quantities, so off we went to Super Foods. This place was mobbed too! After it was all said and done we still feel that a number of items are less expensive at Price Smart, which makes the annual membership cost worth it for us, as we continue to extend out stay on the island. By now we were pretty tired and hungry, so we stopped at Bavaria for dinner, which is one of favorite first stops. It's a place that is consistently good and reasonably priced. Peter came over to our table a number of times and the staff was very attentive. After dinner it was time to crash. The weather was mostly cloudy so we didn't miss much sun time and we accomplished what we needed to do. Looking forward to some rest and a fresh start tomorrow.

Enjoy your stay. Bavaria was on my list last trip but I didn't make it. Next time! They must have some really good ice cold german beer there. I'm not much of a beer drinker but I like a really cold beer once in a while. Last 2 beach day I would start the beach with 2 cold balashi at 9am. So refreshing!

You want to here something silly, like 4 years ago when I went to Aruba there was this Professor from New York University sitting next to me on the plane and his wife and kids were in back of us. Somehow he felt the need to confess that he felt really guilty because when he vacations in Aruba he drinks a few beers early in the morning when he hits the beach or pool. I was like, ok sounds normal to me. He said I swear I don't even keep booze in the house but somehow I drink first thing in the mornings when I go to Aruba. I said, sir you are on vacation! Enjoy it! Then I called the flight stewart over and ordered a few screwdrivers for us.

    Sunday, day 2.

Went to LaCabana and renewed our gym membership. We're there every morning, so this is the last time I'll bore you with that detail.
We usually spend the morning one of the shared pools in our development, getting acclimated to the sun. It was overcast most of the morning and then the rain came, as I mentioned previously. We tried to make the best of it and decided to take a ride around the island.
We went to Jolly Pirates again, looking for tickets to the Lion Fish Festival, but it was sold out. They said to stop back a half hour before it started to see if we could get in, so that was our plan.
We headed towards the Casibari Rock Formations, looking for the Casibari Cafe. We enjoy driving through the local neighborhoods, looking at real estate, so we drove be through a few on the way. When we got to the Cafe the restaurant was closed, Sunday, so we decided to walk around and climb the rocks to the top. Great view...The Cafe has a nice atmosphere, so we decided to stop back the next night when it was open.
We drove around a little more and made a pit stop at Fermin's. We usually stop there a few times during our stay. The food this time was so so. The chicken was boney and not much meat on the ribs. Everything was tasty but not much there. At this point it'll probably just become a place that we stop for a bucket of beers. At least they are ice cold and cheap.
At his point it was about 4 in the afternoon and the rain had finally let up.
We stopped at Super Foods and then back to the condo.
We tried to get into the Lion Fish Festival but it was sold out. It didn't matter much anyway as we were still stuffed from Fermin's. So back to the condo and called it a night. It was a gray lazy day...

thanks for sharing. you certainly did make the most of a rainy afternoon.
    is fermins under new management?
we have been there before and also have found the chicken with more bone than meat.
