TRIP REPORT 1ST ARUBA VACAY - 20th Anniversay/Family Vacation July 26th - August 2nd
First I would love to thanks so much everyone that replied to all of my post, I did a great research, so proud of myself, I read so much that my local new friends in Arubawere really surprised, I knew so much about restaurants, activities, etc...LOL.
Andrea, Jackie, Angela, so many people in this forum were so helpful. Thanks from the bottom of my heart, please read carefully my first day in Aruba, it gets interesting..
DAY 1: We flew out of Atlanta airport just 35 minutes away from our sweet home, kiddos, 11 and 16, were very very excited, hubby started watching videos of Aruba just 2 weeks prior our trip and was more than excited, I did all the homework so I was even more excited, literally jumping...LOL...I was excited, tensed, very nervous, don't like to fly, we're cruise addicts so we always drive to FL to take the cruise. God was watching over me and when I was about to panic, I met this very nice lady, Josephine, she was sitting next to me and we started talking about Aruba.. Josephine is such smart lady, learned so much from our 2.5hour conversation, she goes to Aruba every year for 4weeks, she's done it for 28years. Can I say more about Paradise??.. so now you now this smart and well educated lady kept me busy and I forgot about everything. 4hours later here we are!!!... landed in Beautiful Aruba at 12:30PM. Yesss... Aruba is so organized that in the blink of an eye we were just getting our luggage.
I walked to Duty-Free to buy a bottle of Grey Goose, but since we brought 1liter, I decided to leave it, what a mistake (more about it later)... after picking up our luggage we headed to take a taxi, line was huge, first time we see such a nice cars and SUV's been used as Taxi on the islands, we found the process organized and here is our taxi driver, black SUV... Usually taxi drivers gives us information about the island, restaurants, things to do, etc, this driver didn't, he drove so fast and aggressive, after that hubby got so nervous that we didn't rent the car, due to the way they drive in the island, too aggressive. He dropped us at the Divi Village lobby, hubby gave him $3 tip and he left pretty fast....
Oh Oh 10 minutes after I realized I left my Apple computer in the taxi, I asked hubby, kiddos, bell man, nobody saw my computer, I realized was left in the taxi. Spoke with Jackie at the concierge desk and with the bell man, between both of them called every taxi company in Aruba, the description I gave them was a black Nissan SUV, I was actually wrong, it was a Black Prado.
We asked a female taxi driver that was behind us, if she knew my taxi and she told us "Is taki 66, he doesn't work for a company", so we declared my laptop lost... I was so sad.. about 10 guess that were in the lobby, came to talk to me and they all said "oh girl you lucky if you get it back"... but all the employees at the hotel were so positive I was getting it back, they all said the same "Don't worry about it, you'll get it back, here nothing gets lost, you're in Auba, the island is so small, the taxi driver doesn't want a bad reputation" and on and on and on..
My own opinion is this, we're talking about a $1,700 Apple Macbook Pro, whoever in my own country DR or USA finds it, I'm sure won't return it, is money right on your pocket, nice computer, I was so worry about all the pictures I have in there. documents, you name it... To make a long story short, the concierge girl, Jackie, found the taxi number, he is number 115 Prado Black SUV, after 30 minutes taxi dispatcher contacted him and he was on his way back to the hotel to bring my laptop, this happened at 2:45PM.
We waited and waited and at one point gave up, was super sad and decided to go and have lunch, we went to the restaurant behind the lobby, worst lunch in Aruba BTW, will never go back there...After lunch we got our unit, so we decided to go and unpack and take a shower, we had no internet service or phone, we were feeling lost, NO CAR, NO CELL PHONE SERVICE, nothing. I had a dinner reservation at Buccaneer at 6;30PM and had to cancel, wasn't feeling Aruba yet, was so disappointed and felt horrible, started my dream trip loosing close to 2k.. I wanted to cry....
5:30PM we decided to go back to the lobby, wifi wasn't working at our unit, Divi Dutch wasn't what we were expecting, our unit was outdated, old, cabinets are all scratch, we didn't like it. I requested a 2nd floor due to a knee problem and got 3rd floor, so we complained..heading down we met Divi Dutch Maintenance manager, we were so surprised to hear them speaking spanish, she was from my island, Dominican Republic, almost everybody in the maintenance area is spanish, we were so happy to hear people speaking spanish and from that moment I felt better...we were complaining about our unit, but since she was so nice we decided to stay...
We headed to the lobby and asked for my computer, we heard more than 500 times that the driver was on his way, he never made it back, my computer was officially lost, so sad...
Oh Oh no so fast, when I came back to ask for my computer, the lady at front desk asked me if I was in unit 47, I wasn't I was in Unit 56, so I said no...a few minutes later the concierge representative called again the taxi dispatcher and they said "the driver left the computer at the front desk, he handed to someone by the name James", my heart dropped, I knew he took it.. I had no hope.. I was already gone. it was either him or a passenger, I wasn't sure if I left it in the passenger seat or in the trunk .... Jackie went back to talk to the same girl that asked me if I was in unit 47... she handed Jackie my laptop...Ohhhhhh I was happyyy.. Yesss got my computer back... OMG!!! Couldn't believe I was getting back all my photos, documents, couldn't be happier.. The biggest confusion was, that I complained about the unit, they switch us to unit 47, we didn't know, we stayed at 56, didn't know 47 was nicer and bigger, we found out Wednesday...LOL..
So got my computer back and was really happy.. Aruba stole my heart, nice and beautiful Island.. Nice people..Couldn't believe how honest taxi drivers are.. no complains..
After the big computer storm.. I asked for a place to eat, my mind was already blank, couldn't think of anything, Jackie recommended Mathews at Casa del Mar.. I remembered most of you guys recommended Mathews on the forum, I had it on my list, but was so sad that I forgot, so we headed to Mathews at 7:45 and had a beautiful and delicious dinner. We love Mathews and ate there a few time... BTW we discovered that Casa del Mar has free wi-fi, is really fast tho, better than Divi lobby, so we stayed there for about 30 minutes and then back to the hotel and called it a night.
More of my trip report tomorrow..Will try to summarize every day. Promise won't be as long as this one...LOL
Thanks Andrea.. It was our first trip, we were expecting to have wifi at our unit, we had wifi sometimes at the stairs, but that it.. The best of all was Casa del Mar and ABC. Never heard of MIO before. How much is that??
