We just got back from our third trip to Aruba and Iím already missing it! Iíll try to make my trip report short and sweet.
We took the Jet Blue red eye from Denver to JFK to Aruba. This was the first time we used Jet Blue and we were pleased. They really took care of us on the red eye (eye masks, ear plugs, orange juice, hot towels). Even though it was out of the way to go to the northeast, the layover was shorter than we normally have in Miami and the tickets were a bit less, so overall was a better flying experience than usual.
We stayed at the Oceania condos and were very pleased. No major issues. We rented a two bedroom/three bathroom condo through Prestige. The complex had three pools open and was practically deserted. The complex also has 24 hour security and is gated.
We rented a Honda CRV from More4Less to get around the island Ė no problems there.
We went to Super Foods at least 3-4 times Ė no problems there.
My husband and I climbed the Haystack. We found it pretty easy and got a pretty early start. We are from high altitude so I was expecting it to be an easy hike. Once we factored in the heat and humidity (and possibly because we are out of shape) it was a tough climb, but we did it. Was disappointed in the view at the top.
We had dinner in most nights, but ate at Passions and Anna Mariaís. Both were excellent. We arenít foodies, so I canít go into detail about the finer points, but the service at both was great, the food was yummy, and the ambience at both was excellent. The owner at Anna Mariaís came out and chatted with us for a few minutes. I told him I learned of the restaurant through the forum and he told me that Andrea has never been?!?!??! What??!?!? Tell me that isnít so. Andrea Ė youíve got to go!
The beach was great every day, with the exception of two days there was a little bit of seaweed floating around, but nothing that kept me out of the water.
I ordered a personalized license plate from Scottís Bratís. I want to give a shout out to them because they went above and beyond and delivered the plate to my condo on a Sunday because we were leaving early Monday and I wouldnít be able to make it to them to pick it up. Itís going to make a great Christmas present for my husband!
I hate to complain, but the only downside of the vacation was a tour we did with ABC Jeep Tours. I did a bunch of research before the trip and knew what to expect. The main purpose of taking the tour was to see the Natural Pool (which was a disappointment). We were expecting a rough bumpy ride to the Natural Pool. What we got was reckless driving the entire four hours Ė not just down to the pool. I politely asked our driver to slow down a bit, he laughed and said no, and then drove more recklessly and would say stuff like, ďHow do you like that?Ē Most people on the tour (four Jeeps of about eight people each) seemed to be having a good time, so I didnít make a big deal about it. The next day my mom had a sore neck Ė once we got back home she went to the doctor and he confirmed it was whiplash. She is now on muscle relaxers and has to go to PT! It honestly was like being on a roller coaster for four hours Ė not my thing. That being said, it was informative and I got to see some places I wouldnít have otherwise seen (natural pool, gold mill ruins, and a natural bridge).
All in all this was a terrific vacation and I canít wait to go back again!
Thank you so very much for sharing your story with us.
So terrific that you had a good time!!
Kudos to Scott and Leslie of Scott's Brats ...they are good folks and I am honored to know them.
Terrible...no excuse for reckless driving. Scary!
That isn't so! I have been to Anna Marias only once. A few years ago. (Might have been December 2010 or Nov 2011)
we were there with friends and the reservation i am sure was not in my name as my husband and I did not make the reservation. Our friends who are local arubans made the reservation. The owner of that place does not know me nor I him. We may have corresponded here on the forum?
Thanks for the trip report. That is some ride to the natural pool-EEEK! Scotts Brats is a great spot to eat and drink. I think the license plates are the best deal on the island as far as gifts go. They went out of their way for us last year and met us too.
