Well we are finally back from our honeymoon to Aruba. We stayed from June 21st to June 28th. And we stayed at the Aruba Beach Club. Here is our trip report.
Our plane left from Charlotte about 11:30. Our flight was good and uneventful. We arrived in Aruba about 3:30 and made it through everything pretty quick. We stopped by the fast phones kiosk and picked up our phone. We then meet the people from American car rental and took the shuttle to pick up our car. We got the 3 day rental and we picked a Chevy Cavalier. The car was in good running condition, but the radio did not work. But really as long as the A/C worked I was fine with it. After we picked up the car we went on to the Aruba Beach Club. Check-in was fast. After we put our bags in our room, we headed down to the bar for happy hour. We had a couple drinks and it really started feeling like our vacation/honeymoon. After the bar we went to Pizza Bob’s for some pizza and beer. We loved the pizza. After that we went grocery shopping.
We got up really early because we did not how crowded the beach would be. So we went down to the beach about 7 and there was hardly anyone out, but that was fine. We laid out most of the day coming in for lunch. For dinner we went to Matthew’s Beachside Restaurant. We went about 6 o’clock and the restaurant was pretty empty and we got our food pretty quick. I had the meat combo and she had fried shrimp. Both meals were good. After dinner we were kind of tired so we just spent time back at the room.
On Monday we woke up and decided to go explore the Island. We drove up to the California Lighthouse and Alto Vista Chapel. Both were very beautiful. We drove around the island for a little longer and it was pretty amazing. While we were up at the lighthouse a guy came up to us wanting us to go visit the Marriott for a timeshare, we first told him no, but then he said we would get $150 for just going and listen. For a young poor couple, that’s a lot of money, plus we wanted to see what all the Marriott had. So we scheduled it for the next day. That night we went decided to go out to the Black hog saloon. When we got there, there was only 3 other people in the bar so we decided to play putt-putt and see if some more people showed up. Well after we finished we came back down to the bar and there was six people were there. I know that there busiest days are Tuesday and Thursday, but we figured there would be more people than that. So after that we went down to the high-rise area and walked around. We stopped at the shops and got our siblings some gifts. We then stopped at Hooters and got some fried pickles and drinks. Tuesday
Our timeshare (Marriott calls it a Vacation Club) meeting was at 8:30. We got there and had a meeting the Michel. He was very nice. The room we saw was very nice. After that we went back to our room and got ready for the beach. It was pretty cloudy, but we wanted to at least go down for a while. We were not down there long and it started raining. I had read on here most of the time if it rains, it doesn’t last long so we decided to go back to the room and wait it out. Well this time it did last for a long while, so we took a good long nap. That night we decided to go to Senor Frogs. I had the hamburger and Danielle had the Chicken breast. This was probably the best night we had. It was not over crowded. We both had a couple of “yards” that were really good along with some Amstel Brights. Danielle and I both got to participate in some games during the night. She won 2 shots of tequila for guessing the right theme song for a TV show. I got to try to beat the “Senor Frog World Record” for doing the fastest beer bong. The poured 2 beers in and I got them down in right at 5 seconds. I think the record was 3 or 4. The other game Danielle participated in was some type of scavenger hunt. There were 5 girls and they had to go around and find different things such as guy’s watch, cigarette, and then a guy’s pair of pants. Well before I knew it I had my pants off standing in Senor Frogs. (kinda weird). Anyways we met a really nice couple from New Jersey that was sitting at the table next to us. We found out that the next night they would be going on the same Tattoo boat as us. Wednesday
We talked to one of the maids that said it had not rained this much in probably 3 months or so. (just our luck) It was still cloudy, but we headed down to the beach hoping it would clear up….. Well that did not happen. It started raining again. So we went back up to the room again. We were starting to get upset, but there was nothing we could do about the weather so we sucked it up and made the best of it. The rain let up for a while so we tried to go back down to the beach, only for it to start raining again. We decided to get ready and go down to the bar for happy hour and get some wings. We knew there would be food on the boat, but did not know what it would be exactly so we wanted to at least have a snack. Later that night we headed out for the boat. We had good meal of Chicken, rice, and lasagna. The drinks we $1-3 so that was good, because we had plenty. We met up with our new friends from Jersey and drank the night away. Thursday
Finally some sun. We woke up kinda of early to try to get as much sun as we could. WE stayed out til about 3:15 and went into to change and go downtown for some shopping. Danielle got her a purse and wallet and we got some gifts for the family. We then went to eat at Iguana Joes. We had the Quesadillas and a Hamburger. They were both really good, but the service was not great. Danielle loved the pink iguana though. We went back to the hotel to get ready for the night. We decided to go back to Senor Frogs because they were having a special promotion for “Arabian Nights” It was really crowded this night. We were pretty tired before we got there, but we had a good time. We had a couple baby yards and Amstel Brights, before we went back to the hotel. Friday
This was our last full day. We headed down to the beach because we wanted as much sun as possible. I scheduled a couple massage to surprise Danielle. For the both of us this was our first massage and it was great. I think Danielle is already spoiled because she was already talking about getting another one. After that we went back downtown for a littlee more shopping. We did not stay long because we wanted to get back to the beach. We stayed on the beach until about 6:15 or so. For our last meal we went to L.G. Smith Steakhouse. We got to use our gift cards from the time share here. We both had a Rib-eye. She had tomato soup and I had some type of seafood soup. Both were really good. Our steaks were delicious. They were the best steaks either one of us has ever had. After that we went to the casino in the hotel. The restaurant has a pretty good plan. When you are finished with your meal, they give you a $5.00 card for the casino. So we lost some money at the Casino. Then decided to go back to the hotel. Saturday
Our flight did not leave till 4:40 so we slept in late. Check-in was at 12:00 and we checked out about 11;58. It only took about 5 minutes to check out. And we were on our way to the airport. We turned in our cell phone and then checked in our bags. The line for JetBlue was really long, but our Airline, US Airways only had about 5 people in it. We checked in our bags and got through customs in probably 45 minutes to an hour. Our return flight was uneventful. We got back to Charlotte and were on the road home by 9:30. We were back in Knoxville about 1:30.
Pizza Bob’s-Great Pizza, very thin crust. We had a 12 inch pepperoni pizza and it was more than enough for the both of us. The pizza was about $20.00.
Matthew’s Beachside Restaurant- I had the 3 meat combo I had the Meat Combo (Fillet mignon, chicken breast, and Chorizo) Danielle had Fried Shrimp.
Hooters-We just had fried pickles, but they were really good.
Iquana Joes- I had the Cheeseburger, she had the Chicken quesadillas. Danielle said the best thing was the pink iguana drinks.
Senor Frogs- We went 2 different times. The first time I had a Cheeseburger and she had the Chicken Breast. Both were really good. The second time we had Chicken wings. They were really spicy and really good.
Tortuga Bar and Grill- We had chicken wings one day and at breakfast the last morning. The breakfast was decent, but not great.
American Car Rental
We had a 3 day car rental. We chose the Chevy cavalier. It was not a great car, but it got us around. Like I said before the radio did not work all the time, but the A/C did. When we go back I would probably try another car rental, not that this one was bad, but just to see what else is out there. The total price with insurance and everything was about $115.
Aruba Beach Club
We could not have asked for a better place to say. We had heard that it was an older place, but with the renovations they have done in the past couple of years it looked new. Our room was on the top floor (floor four). We had a perfect view of the pool and ocean. It was amazing. The staff was very helpful and did anything we ask. We tipped the maid $2.00 a day and she made our room spotless. She cleaned the dishes and mopped everyday. We would definitely recommend this place and would look at staying here again. We would like to think the people that rented out the room to us.
From where we are from people drove a little crazy down there. I should have prepared more for the roads and done more research on that. I was not prepared for the circle things in the middle of the roads (can’t remember what they were called).
The rain really sucked. It pretty much washed out two of our days on the beach. It’s our luck it would rain 2 straight days and rain more the week we were there than the last 3 months.
The timeshare people. Even though we went to see the Marriott, everywhere we went we had someone stopping us and asking if we would like to go. We figured out that you had to be 25 for most of them, so we just said we were just 20 years old and they would move on.
The food, eventhough we didn’t branch out and eat a lot of places or different foods we enjoyed every meal.
The Beach. The beach and ocean was beautiful. The water was beautiful and very clear.
The people. Everyone was very nice.
Well I guess that is it for now. If you have any questions I would be glad to try to answer them. Once again we would like to thank everyone for all the suggestions and advice given to us over the last couple of months. With out you all our trip would not have been as great as it was. Thank you.
Thanks TennCouple for posting your review. I can only imagine how disappointing it was to see all of that rain. Our flight was late departing on Tuesday and in 17 trips we have never ever seen rain that heavy for so long.
Enjoyed your trip report - sorry too about the rain. The very first time i went to aruba was in june and it rained 3 days. I was so disappointed but next time came back in april and have never had rain again. I think june may be a rainy month.
Under a hut, walking Eagle Beach, lunch on the beach, Amstel Bright Beer on the beach, coffee in the morning on the beach, taking a dip in the sea,
>>> "in 17 trips we have never ever seen rain that heavy for so long."
---- Ditto. Was down for 2 weeks around the same time next store at CDM. Yes, in 21 trips have never had that much rain. But it was great weather for 12 days out of 14.
>>> "I think june may be a rainy month."
---- Nope. Some say June is the windest month. Usually the Fall has the more rain than most of the year. But even then its still little.
