Trip Report January 24th to February 7th

We arrived in Aruba from Canada after a very turbulent flight. We stayed at MVC Eagle Beach and my son and his wife stayed at a place in Paradera called La Felicidad. This is our 7th trip to Aruba. We have stayed at MVC the last 3 years, as we can stay for two weeks for the price of one at other places. We find the hotel clean, comfortable, but yes, it is very basic. The pool is tiny, but we are straight across the street from Eagle Beach, where palapas are plentiful and not hard to come by. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I must admit to one drawback, which is traffic noise at night. We sleep well, but it might be a problem for some. We were greeted on arrival by our friends, Amy and Frank, who we met two years ago. We then hit Superfoods to stock our fridge for light lunches, as we eat out at night.

Highlights of our trip included a sunset sail on the Black Pearl. It was very peaceful and relaxing, with two nice snorkel stops. We rented a car for two days and used it to go to Arashi to snorkel. Had a great time. My daughter-in-law found starfish and I saw an eel and didn't have a fit, which was good for me. Many lovely, colorful fish. I also saw a stingray. We went to Mangel Halto which was a beautiful place. Have gone snorkeling at Baby Beach other years, but this year, found it to be not as good. Not pleased about paying to use the washrooms either. We rented a four-seater UTV to travel through Arikok and I was finally able to swim in the Natural Pool. Last year, it was too rough. The coastline and ocean took my breath away as usual. We also climbed Mt. Hooiberg. My poor husband was ready to collapse, but the views were lovely. Spent most of our time on Eagle Beach, walking, swimming, and relaxing.

Restaurants we enjoyed included Yemanja, which I think was our favorite meal. I had grouper, which I pretty much eat at every meal, my daughter-in-law had a vegetarian choice, and my son and husband had steak. The food was plentiful and the service excellent. We also enjoyed Papillon, Gianni's, Tulip, Pizza Bob's, Elliotti's, and Chalet Suisse, where I had the lamb, which is also a favorite. Enjoyed dinner with Amy and Frank on their final night at Las Ramblas.

Spent the last few days of our vacation visiting with friends from last year, Nell and John. They are a Dutch couple we met last year. My husband is Dutch and in conversation with John, he realized his mom grew up in the same neighbourhood as John in Rotterdam, around the same time frame. They have been in touch with my in-laws and Nell sent Dutch books back to my mother-in-law. I think that part of the fun of the vacation was meeting new people. It was special to show my son and his wife the island we have come to love. Thanks for allowing me to ramble on. We have already reserved for next year!

Nice trip report. I also stood at MVC in November and felt very comfortable. Nice staff and I also liked the convenience of eating at Tulip or Chalet Suisse whenever I felt Lazy and did not want to take a cab to a restaurant.

thank you for sharing your story.

mvc eagle beach typically gets good reviews. those that do reserve there need to know about it being incredibly basic, and small pool.
some may consider that a drawback.
the beach being a few steps away, the availability of palapas, and the nice tulip restaurant are the good points!

how was your meal at las ramblas @ lacabana?
    i read mixed reviews.

ArubaAce, I enjoyed reading about your trip! Andrea J, hi, my meal was delicious. I had rack of lamb and crème brulee for dessert. That was our second visit and both times were equally enjoyable. I agree about MVC. It is important that people know what it's really like. We love it, but it is not luxurious, although the rooms have been redecorated and are quite nice. I think the good reviews are from people like us, who are comfortable as long as it's clean and decent. My favorite place I have stayed so far is Amsterdam Manor in a one-bedroom suite. Have also stayed at the Riu twice and the Renaissance. Enjoyed them all, for different reasons.

Hi Susan, thank you for sharing. I have a question about MVC. I am seeing they have a double room or a quad room. Do you know if the bed in the double room is a King size or a Queen size?
Not sure when, but we will be back

Great trip report, especially your restaurant notes. Thanks for taking the time to share it with us.... you obviously had a good time. We tried Tulip for lunch one time last summer and were quite pleased.
