    Trip Report - Nov.4 - 18

Good morning Aruba friends. We arrived in sunny Aruba yesterday afternoon. Both flights down went very well. We arrived in Aruba about 30 minutes early. We were off the plane fairly quickly. Everything came to a halt when we got off of the escalator. Apparently, four planes arrived within minutes of each other. The line for imigration backed down the corridor, way past the escalator. There were people directing the crowds to two entrances to imigration. Our line was directed down the steps, which meant lugging our heavy carry-ons down the stairs, to the imigration hall. They had the room sectioned off with floor to ceiling partitions. We were in the older area, with no happy flow area. That was on the other side, along with the escalator. After a fairly long wait, we made it to the luggage carousels. This was also a mess. There were tons of people, and luggage from several flights were being unloaded on the same carousel at the same time. There was also a long line to get out of the door. We finally made it outside and looked for Bully, who was nowhere to be seen. Eventually, we spotted a young man, holding a sign with our name on it. He told us that Bully was sick, and asked him to pick us up.

Our very nice, new driver, Anthony dropped us off at Renaissance Ocean Suites for our first week. Our room wasn't ready, so we sat by the pool, having nachos and drinks. It was sooooo hot, with no breeze. We were glad when our room was ready so that we could change out of our hot jeans.

We unpacked, cooled off, and went to Casa Tua for pizza and sangria. This really hit the spot. We walked around for a while, then called it a night. We had been up since 3:00 am.

This morning, we got up with the chickens, and have spent the morning under the palm trees, by the lagoon. We didn't make it to Lings last night (too hot and pooped), so we'll be heading there this afternoon. So far this morning, there has been a nice breeze. Dinner will be at Yemanja tonight.

So happy to hear you are in Aruba, my friend Wally just left Renn yesterday after 2 weeks and called today to say he had a great time. It must be a huge let down when you arrive 30 mins. early only to see those lines. We experienced the lines once but at least were able to get down the escalator before it got all backed up. Time now to sit back, relax and have a wonderful trip. so looking forward to your reports, have a nice dinner tonight.

Not the best arrival experience but I'm sure the rest of vacation will make up for it. We both like the Renaissance Ocean Suites and I love the little bakery in the Marketplace. The first thing I go for is the mango turnovers!

Day 1 seems to always be the toughest one, just read our last report. Early wake up is hard to avoid. We travel strictly carry on to avoid that hassle. It seems like it's always something. The good news is is that you're back in Aruba. We can't wait to hear more. Enjoy...

I went thru that once but it wasn't too bad about a 30 minute process. The last time 5 minutes. You win some and you lose some.

I'm sure a day or two of sun and fun will erase the memories of the airport. Enjoy!
