My wife and I arrived Saturday from Philly about 2:45pm for our 5th trip in 6 years. It is our 4th year in a row and our 3rd straight anniversary in Aruba. There was a flight from Charlotte just in front of us, but they had everyone spread out nicely and it was barely 30 minutes and we were on our way to the hotel.

    Bucuti

We got to Bucuti a short cab ride later and the check-in process went very quickly. By 3:45pm, we were shopping at The Market in the Alhambra Shops. This year it is nearly full of shops. There seems to be only one store empty and a new Asian fusion restaurant. We'll have to try that one day. We were focused on rum, coke, and juices. The Havana Club was between $38 and $48, with the blanco on the low end. It is great rum! We also bought two bottles of Palmera. The Market isn't cheap, but it is convenient to us.

    Early Dinner

We had a very good lunch in first class on the way down, but we were hungry by the time we walked down the beach around 5pm. I had an early dinner and drinks planned at Matthew's Beachside Restaurant for our first night. It was happy hour two for one drinks, so it was an Aruba Ariba party. I loved the seafood soup last year, so I had a bowl before a very tasty grouper with rice and vegetables. My wife had The Mexican, which is a tasty chicken quesadilla. The grouper was $25. The soup was $8 or $9. I think the quesadilla was around $9 or $10. Those happy hour drinks were a little over $20 for two each. So, they were $10 each basically. Not cheap, but we are on vacation. I've paid $30 for doubles on Broadway before.

    Evening

We stopped by Sand Bar at Bucuti for cheaper drinks and had some out at our beach hut since there is no dinner service out there with the restaurant closed. We watched the sun go down and retired to our balcony for the rest of the evening.

Our anniversary is Sunday and we had a big day ahead of us.

Our 3rd wedding anniversary. We were married 3 years ago today on the beach at Divi Phoenix with 14 family and friends in attendance. Well, we were officially married a few hours before that with a government official and my stepdaughters in attendance. The beach ceremony was great though and we ran into the minister at Zeerovers last year. I believe he was from West Virginia originally.

With the restaurant renovations, the breakfast buffet was just downstairs instead of out by the beach. We took our trays upstairs to our balcony and enjoyed the scenery. After that, we had 3 hours of beach time in our hut.

We applied sunscreen before we went down to the beach. I believe Andrea made that suggestion. It seemed to work for me. I am almost entirely burn free today. The beach and sun were great! I'm reading the 2nd Hunger Games book after reading the first one over Valentine's trip to Saint Martin. At noon, I took a dip in the ocean and we headed to Pizza Bob's for lunch.

    Pizza Bob's

We love Pizza Bob's and it is right across the parking lot. I always get the huge mug of Balashi. We had the Mexican pizza again this year. The large is $25, but we have 1/3 of it left after eating too much and it sits in our fridge for late night snacks.

    Back to the Beach

I stayed under the beach hut to read and sleep while my wife grabbed more sun. We spent another 3 1/2 hours out until we headed up to get ready for our anniversary dinner.

    Passions

I believe it was Amy who wrote such great things about this place so we had to try it. We were not disappointed. It was just a $6 cab ride up the beach and we were there 45 minutes early. We were seated right away. We had a beach front table and a great view when the sun finally set. We started with a bottle of wine, Louis Latour Chablis. I ordered the Aruban Seafood Soup for starters. I'm a sucker for good soups. It's broth was very similar to a bisque. I had the Seven Seas for my entree. It consisted of Lobster tail, shrimp, grouper, and mahi-mahi with vegetables and potatoes. My wife had the grouper special with vegetables and potatoes. The fish was very tender and very good. They took extra good care of us for our anniversary. For desert, we shared the Cafe Vienna, which is Chocolate Mousse with vanilla sauce and coffe liqueur. My wife had a chocolate martini and I had Caribbean coffee. We are going to be up all night. We walked the beach home to Bucuti and retired to our deck with the anniversary champagne they delivered as a gift to us.

Monday will be another lazy beach morning, followed by an afternoon trip out. I'm trying not to gain 50 pounds this trip, so we will snack instead of dinner tomorrow night. We are hoping to take a page out of Doin' Time with Dan for lunch tomorrow. I'll post details about what happened.
