those "vaults" are quite commonplace in Aruba, on cruises and on many beaches in the USA.
many folks including me, tend to bring expensive or irreplaceable things to the beach (car keys, iPhone, iPad or tablet, dollars etc)
there is a need to protect our valuables.
these vacation vaults, pac safes and kyss bags, ALL prevent grab and run.
i did own a vacation vault, but it no longer meets our needs as it does not hold the iPads.
we now use a pac safe and i just received a kyssbag as a gift.
i do not think that this is a "new worry on the beach"..i think it is an "old worry" and this is helping peace of mind.

I hope you know they changed them from the blue fabric to the plastic strap ones. The vault would attach to the back rung and of course there is a fee. Just an observation of peace of mind or this is what we have to worry about on the beach.
