    We made it! 12-23 May!

Yay! Got in Thursday afternoon about 3:15. Absolutely a breeze through the airport, no waiting at the new automated passport machines, and our luggage was waiting for us. Taxi to Renaissance was pretty fast, driver passing people like crazy, I loved it. Relaxing happy hour at Blue and then our traditional first night dinner at Iguana Joe's (used to be at La Petit Cafe, until they moved out of downtown). They have great 2 in 1 soup. Had lunch yesterday at The Paddock; the Dutch split pea soup is great. Afternoon at the private island, got back too late for happy hour and then had dinner at Taj Mahal. It was great as always. There are minor issues with people begging for money as we saw during and after dinner, but not a big deal. Not sure what's up for today. We get our rental car tomorrow and just booked a private ArubaBob snorkel trip for Tues AM. I am a little concerned that parking is going to be a pain. I just saw the police cruising the lot across the street on bicycle and giving out tickets. She was very thorough and documented the whole thing with pictures. You are not getting out of a ticket here!

"There are minor issues with people begging for money"? Never saw that in aruba. Young, old, homeless, arubans, venezuelans? I'm just curious.

yes, that caught my eye too.
in all my aruba trips, i do not think i have ever seen a pan handler.

often i see people that are selling newspapers in the median strip downtown ...that might be confused with someone panhandling.

have a ball at the renaissance and their private island!!

are you at the marina tower or the ocean suites?

    thanks so much for sharing.

It's such a great feeling arriving on the island.... and best when it's a quick trip to the hotel and easy check in.

The begging would be something I have not witnessed in my 17 trips to Aruba.

Hi, welcome! You have visited two of our favorite places already Taj Mahal and Iguana Joe's. I don't think you'll have an issue with parking, check with the front desk. They were very informative regarding parking at the Surf Club. Enjoy your time here!

Sounds like a great start to your trip. We stayed at Rennaisance for the first time in Feb. and had a great time. We were approached by a man downtown, who asked us for money. We were walking back to Ren. from the bon bini festival, along the side street. We were very surprised because we had never seen anyone do that in Aruba before, but have been approached almost everywhere else that we have traveled.

Yes, we have been approached a few times now for people asking for money. At the Taj Mahal, we were sitting in a window seat and the guy came to the window asking through the window for money. I think the owner went out and asked him to leave. We have seen this out behind the Ren the last few times we have been here.
