Mathew's is one our favorite go to places. They have three happy hours a day and there food is reasonably priced and very good. We've never had an issue with service but we go early, usually before sunset time if we're having dinner. Last trip I had the all you can eat ribs. They were delicious.

Yes, if you give the bartender a good tip the pours get heavy.

Yday lazy beach day... lotsa naps and great sun and dips in the ocean. We really enjoy the waves here. It's nice to be lifted and released by the water. Apples for breakfast and early lunch at Pega Pega..... DW is lovin' those mojitos. No more new swimsuits for my girl, now we're recycling the earlier wardrobe. Self inflicted happy hour on the beach with supplies from duty free and dinner at Buccaneer...

Buccaneer was delightful and I'm glad we went. The service was good and the food was excellent and value priced. The atmosphere was so tacky that it made me laugh.... the place was dated but clean and the fish tanks were clean too! DW makes me smile.... I'm the meat guy and she's the fish girl so I was looking forward to introducing her to a fish restaurant...... so...... she orders a tenderloin filet.... which was superb!!! We shared a coconut shrimp appetizer, I had shrimp with Madame Janette pepper sauce and we each had an adult beverage the bill came to 106 with service charge. I had a 100 comp from the glitz.... so we were about 12 outta pocket for dinner.

Spent a few hours at the Alhambra and shoulda just sent them a check and gone to bed early.....!

    Beach time.....

CP.......i am wondering about your thoughts on Manchebo.
You had been a staunch high rise person for years.
Last year you made the switch to Amsterdam Manor and although you and your bride liked it, it was not a great fit. (am i saying that correctly?)
I am wondeing if the Manchebo is a better fit?

AM was wonderful... DW and I both loved it..... great staff and grounds..... loved the beach. Hated the flies.....! Also.... too many kids for us for vacation.... we both love kids and DW is an elementary teacher.... but vacation is 'adults only' for us.

Manchebo it the right fit.... it's an old property, but very recently updated and the staff is super. The beach is the best of all the resort areas (IMO) and plenty of privacy at any palapa. Few kids and no one unruly. I don't love the Alhambra casino. We'll be back next year.

I loved the availability of restaurants (especially Bugaloe for lunch) within walking distance in the high rise area and the availability of casinos. I don't miss the watersports, vendors, banana boats, 'cruise ship campers', parasailing, power boat noise, closeness of the palapas and etc......

    Late for the beach.....

All day yday at the beach.... pega pega for lunch and then happy hour. DW wanted to do Matthews for dinner so we walk over. I had some service concerns based on reviews... but service was great and the atmosphere wonderful. Food was average but DW was happy. Did some light shopping at the shops at Alhambra for DWs new hat and some lotion.... back to the room to tuck DW in and I taxi to Glitz casino.

Actually had a great blackjack run with a table of good folks and then a couple of video poker modest wins. It's tough to find a machine here with all the buttons working properly and not sticking... but that's not uncommon with bar top machines. It's nice to be firmly in the positive for casino funds on any trip. Rolled back into the room about 1:45.... beach during the day.... casino at night.... tough work.... but I will get it done.

CP, glad you had good service at Matthews. We had really bad service the last time we were there and it was sad because it had always been a go to place for us. At some point we may go back but for now, at least, we have so many places we want to try or have to go back to it's just not making the list. I like the Manchebo location because there are a fair number of restaurants in the area that we haven't tried.
