Booked Divi All Inclusive Half price on Cyber Monday and can't go now

We just found out we can't go to Divi All Inclusive that we booked for half price on Cyber Monday . It's a great rate for 5 nights on May 29-31 with an oceanview room for 4 people. I didn't realize it was a non refundable reservation and we would lose our $419 deposit if we cancel. Divi said we can transfer the reservation to someone else's name so I thought I'd post on the forum in case someone wanted a half price trip to Divi. The balance of $2095 isn't due until 30 days before check in. I'd like to pass the half price deal on to someone else and not lose our deposit if possible. Thanks for any info if this post isn't allowed I'm still learning

that is too bad that you cannot go.

did you purchase trip insurance and is there a cancellaton clause?

    what about your air?
    had that been purchased yet?
    air is typically non transferrable.

Perhaps contact some travel agents to market to their customers?

What a shame. We also booked with this sale. The cancellation penalty is stiff because the rate was so good. In the past they would return the deposit if it was within 30 days. I was surprised when I saw the terms but decided it was still worth it. Like Andrea says if you have insurance you can recover the money. Would they let you reschedule for a later date?

some of the trip cancellation policies will only cancel for medical and some of those exclude pr exisiting conditions

some of the trip insurance policies have no questions asked re cancellations providing that one purchases the insurance within a day or 2 or 3 after booking.

we had to cancel a trip due to the death of my mother (in 2004)
the insuracne company balked and claimed preexisting condition
but DEATH is not a pre existing condition so the full refund was issued.

Thanks guys for the info. I might contact some travel agents to promote it. We would just like our deposit back somehow. It really is a good deal, hopefully someone can use it.
