Cool Bucuti Vs Barcelo Vs Riu Palace. Please HELP! =]

    Good evening everyone.

Me and my GF are planning our first trip to Aruba, and we are having some serious trouble figuring out what to do. We can not decide on what hotel we want to stay at and the type of experience we are looking for.

I will say upfront that the Bucuti and the Barcelo are the same price, both with oceanfront views. The Riu hotel is about 600 more.

Each hotel I feel from what I have read has their pros and cons.

The Bucuti obviously to me has the nicest beach with the best service. The problem is that we want to go out at night and have fun. While I know its a short cab ride away ( 10 mins ? ), it still worries me. Also what worries me is that I feel its going to be very quiet at the bucuti. I hear there is not any music or anything. We are also in our LATE 20s, so we do not know if its only going to be an older crowd there.

The Riu hotel seem extremely beautiful and is also an all inclusive, which bucuti is not, but we would also be paying more. From what I hear the food is actually pretty good at the rui, but our worry here is that its going to be too crowded, and we will have to fight for chairs and not have anywhere to sit and lounge by the beach and pool. I am sure someone on here can give us some insight on that.

The Barcelo seems like its a nice bet because of the price, but I hear the food is not very good there, not to mention no free wifi, and I do not think its 24 hour room service or top shelf liquor. I also hear the rooms are dated but I know there is a transition going on, and we wouldn't be there until June anyway. We have the option for oceanfront room here also, which I hear there is not a lot of those so I am sure the room will be nice

How are the shows at all these hotels? Is there a lot of entertainment? How is the food at the all inclusives? The pools? lol

We plan on doing a few excursions while we are there also, so we are hoping for an extremely good time, while also fun and relaxing.

So please, if possible, can you guys give your suggestions and give your thoughts on these hotels. If you stayed there, that would help so much also.

I am grateful for all of you guys help in this matter.

    Thank you

First welcome to the forum. If I had those 3 options I would choose the Bucuti which has free breakfast included. But based on what you have said you are looking for as well as your "fears," I would choose the Riu.

If you are not going during high season I don't think you will have an issue finding a spot by the pool. The location would be perfect for you as well if you want to be in the middle of the action so to speak. That said, the Barcelo is next door as well.

Please accept my welcome to the forum as well....! I agree with Aruba4ever and would add that your Palm Beach hotels have lots of night life with in walking distance. The Eagle Beach hotels have more beach and no real night life options other than the Alhambra Casino.

Welcome to the forum! The Bucuti is a very quiet spot. It's also within walking distance to restaurants, as well as, the Alhambra Casino. One thing that may be a consideration is the Bucuti is remodeling some of their rooms during May and June of this year so they are pretty much booked solid up until July. You might want to check out Manchebo if you liked the Bucuti location. Cabs are readily available and it's a quick easy ride to the high rise area. We like to spend our vacation in the low rise area because we like the beaches better but there are more water activities in the high rise areas. The reality is no matter what you decide you'll have a great vacation.

Thank you for the responses so far. Such a tough decision. Is the RIU worth the extra money over the barcelo next door? We were looking at the Hyatt and Marriott, but couldn't spark our interest that much. Good reviews though.

Welcome to the aruba.com community forum.
imo the bucuti is in a whole different league that the riu or barcelo.

if you can live without all inclusive try the bucuti. If not, I would opt for barcelo.

As an addendum there are "carnival" theme shows/dinners at some of the resorts.
However not big name shows like in vegas.

Welcome to the Aruba.com Community Forum!

Bucuti is great for a quiet lazy beach vacation. The other 2 are worlds away. Riu & Barcelo are going to be busier and more lively - I think what you are hoping for.

Thanks for all the responses. I love how the bucuti looks but I think for our first time we will go more towards the action. We were looking at the marriott also which looks pretty nice too. That comes out to around 300 more then the bucuti and the barcelo, but again, not all inclusive. Seems not as crazy packed as the riu

I was really only looking at barcelo because financially it made sense, since its the same price as bucuti, yet offers all inclusive, but these trip advisor reviews worry me. A lot of complaints about everything, esp the food. That could change in 6 months though when I arrive.

Sigh, I will keep you all posted. Very exciting time.

I plan on going to some restaurants on island anyway ;]
