Can anyone tell me what resort this is?

Yesterday at a cookout a couple was telling me they stayed in Aruba about 8 years ago at an all-inclusive in the high rise area called the Aruba resort. They said it wasn't far from Holiday Inn, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what resort this is. Is there one that changed names? I was thinking maybe the Occidental or RIU? We have mutual friends planning to honeymoon in Aruba next year and we had a full on debate on all-inclusive vs. do your own thing. Since we have done both, I felt more qualified to answer I am on the side of "do your own thing". It was fun though - even talking about Aruba makes me happy.
Not sure when, but we will be back

The Riu did not open until July 2007.

The property had been the Aruba Grand until it closed approximately
    April 30, 2006.

I do not believe that the Aruba Grand was an all inclusive property.

It could possibly be what is now Occidental. If so, the resort was called "Allegro" back then, it was the first place we stayed in Aruba in 2001, I believe it changed around 2004? It was all inclusive and is next to Hyatt and Radisson in the high rise section, it is now Occidental.

    yup, an all inclusive property.
(disclosure....some timeshare units there are not required to do all inclusive)

The Occidental was indeed the Alegro. They were just changing over when we started to go there. At the time people would say.... Ahhh the old Americana
These hotels change names pretty frequently.

We stayed at the Allegro in 1999 when it was not all inclusive "only" (except for some of the timeshare units). Too many disclaimers.

I believe it switched over completely to Occidental sometime '05 or '06 after the resort closed for renovations.
