    Couple's 'holiday from hell'

    Couple's 'holiday from hell' at five-star Caribbean resort that turned out to be more like a construction site...

    YES, opinions are subjective but listen to the video for 5 seconds and you too would have demanded to have your hard earned money returned.

    A picture is worth a thousand words and some of the stuff in my humble opinion is inexcusable- the dirty dusty electric socket would immediately make me wonder, what do the filters on their air conditioners look like? The broken light stand wouldn't be a deal breaker for me on vacation, it does not make the noise a sledge hammer does, but still gives me the impression that the Riu does NOT give a darn.

    Absolutely unacceptable! Although the Riu is a nice looking property, I am no fan of the "holier than thou" staff and crew there. I hope these people start a campaign to stop folks in Britain from even considering such a place. And I assume that Thomson is the travel agent and will accept absolutely no responsibility. I guess they have no chance of even an apology from Riu, and that is a shame. They should be all over Trip Advisor with this.

    Where was the travel agent.....? With 5 trips a year, I'd think the folks at 'Thompson Hotels' would really value their business and bend over backwards to help with alternate lodging.

    I may have missed something in the story.
    They stayed at the Riu Antilles (formerly the Westin) which is next door to the Riu Palace where the renovations were ongoing.
    The Riu Antilles was renovated a few months ago.

    There is a fair amount of distance between the 2 if memories serves.

    Was it the pool at the Antilles that was drained and under refurbishment ?

    Was management able to make the others from the Thompson tour happy, but these particular folks never were offered a better location, therefore no compensation/reassignment to make up for the inconveniences of noise etc..?

    They also said that they did not attend the manager's meeting when lots was explained.
    If they had attended might there have been a better outcome? Maybe?

    Thompson tour group and Riu ...are they owned by the same parent company or how are they affiliated?

    Lisa said it perfectly about the Riu not giving a damn. Pretty sad state of affairs when they do not care much at all for their customers/clients.

    so, at the same time that the Riu Palace's pool was under refurbishment, the Riu Antille's pool was also under refurbishment?
    did the Riu Palace just recently reopen after renovations?

    Yes, Riu Palace reopened within the last 2 weeks. The Riu's corporate press release announcing the reopening came out on August 3, 2015. POOR planning on someone's part Not sure not having a pool would be a make or break for me, but the noise? THAT would've been another story.

    The noise would definitely be a deal breaker for me. The pool I would be unhappy about but I could adjust. They definitely should be compensated.

    Sad that her vacation turned out the way it did. Nobody should have to pay for something and not get what they were excepting.
    I would of gotten a hold of the TA and kept calling them till something was resolved... She was their "customer" and should of gave her want was hers.
    When we were on a cruise from "hell" I flipped so bad.. that they offer us a $500.00 per cabin for a future cruise.. I refused that and requested a refund for
    each cabin. Did get the refund too. Would never go on that line again.. (small Italian line that pretend not to speak English.. well I know the bad words..like them) They might even have me on the DNR list (do not return)
    Even went straight to the CEO of the cruise line; threaten to contact everyone that would listen to me including the news... did get the refund too.
    Got to fight to the very end.
