Done deal. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Aruba will replace our abandoned Bushiri Hotel in Oranjestad.

In my opinion, not the right place for that hotel. Should be a low-rise hotel and if the picture that is shown is true, not a low rise hotel - uggggggggggg

well, it is better than the pile of rubble and decay that sits there now.

i miss the bushiri.
it was a gem, a landmark and a wonderful all inclusive resort.

let's see how the hard rock plays out.

the old BUSHIRI is the 2 or 3 story resort located south of the Tamarijn.
it is across the street from Certified strip Mall.

it has been abandoned for 10 yrs +/- In its heyday it was quite the place. Outstanding food and services there. We stayed there in the summer of 1999 or 2000 for a few nights pre or post our lacabana timeshare.

it fell into bad times, and was closed.

a number of places had looked into purchasing the property and renovating or razing and starting anew. this hard rock deal is one of a few mentioned. i hope it goes thru.

it has been demolition by neglect.

it was also the home to aruba culinary/hospitality training.

all of the best and the brightest practiced their skills at the Bushiri.

since I don't know the bushiri, where would that be located.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not enthusiastic about this news. A new hotel - If something must go in that space, let's keep it in the spirit of the low rise area....a two-three story hotel, with local flavor - not a huge steel and glass place with a big guitar on the front. I suppose they have to go with who can afford to build it, but it's really disappointing to me. If I wanted something that looked like that, I'd go to Disney....hopefully clear heads will prevail and they will make sure it's tastefully done. One of the reasons we stay in the low rise area is because we want to see the sky and the ocean - not brick and morter....I'd rather see them just rip the remains of the Bushiri down , which I agree is an eye-sore and make it a park or public beach. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

my opinion is that i would rather see a building there that is occupied instead of the mess that is there now. i do not expect people to agree with me. many won't.

and a disclosure........i was was ANTI RITZ and found that their location and size is too much for that area where it is being built. there was a time when there was talk of the ritz going in at the bushiri site. i thought that the bushiri site would have been great for the ritz. i think that the bushiri site will be great for the HRH+C.

i wonder if it is considered the lo rise area or is it in the "eagle area" a section of downtown?
i hope that they keep it to 4 stories or less.

i think the artist sketch is not terribly offensive.

i see this as a win win.
the new resort will employ a lot, will require a huge clean up of the area including the container area.
i see it as a positive development.
i am a fan of hard rock. there is a hrh+c here in tampa and it is lovely, busy, has great food, nice guest rooms and good gaming.

as for the folks that stay near that area......tamarijn guests. i think with the cleanup involved at the bushiri site, it will be a huge benefit for the tamarijn guests............when they look to the south, they will see a clean beach, a vibrant attractive property and the container area possibly cleaned up and maybe relocated.

Not all of their resorts are a long the lines of Atlantis, but they are contemporary with clean lines. They have designed buildings for all the big names in the hospitality industry...Four Season, Ritz, JW Marriott, Hyatt...

It will take a very special property to fill that space due to it's less than ideal location with a man made beach. This should be a perfect fit.

Ok, I'll give them this - the one they built in Anguilla isn't too bad. You both have very valid points. It would be nice to see that area cleaned up. The giant guitar is bothering me, but we'll wait and see what happens. As others have stated, nothing goes quickly in Aruba so it may be years before it's done. And the one in Anguilla looks like a low-rise building so...... I'll reserve judgement for now. I know development is necessary for growth. I just hope Aruba doesn't turn into Vegas South!
