well....we will just have to wait and see....maybe if HR still decides to build they can lay the guitar on its side...or better yet design the sign like their new tshirt...the divi tree shaped like a guitar.....

So sorry to hear this. I think it's going to ruin the idea of the low rise area. The reason we love the low rise area is because it's not the high rise area! I'm glad to see they are doing something with that site, but why can't they make it a low rise hotel. Does Aruba really need another huge hotel? I don't want to see it turning into another Palm Beach with people on top of each other and murky waters from all the boats, etc. Oh well, guess there's nothing we can do about it. The almighty dollar always wins!

Arrow From the ATA' travel agent newsletter

"The new project will generate additional income and room inventory needed during peak periods. It will also cater to a new young and affluent market, diversifying the Aruba product. "

Wow... mixed feelings about this, but I don't know if we should all get upset yet.
Rumblings from locals (yes, folks I know personally that have been involved in some of the negotiations) have leaned not in the direction of this happening.
Hmmm. Interesting to say the least.
I wonder if someone needed to fill printing space on the page...?

I will say however, that I'm not totally against the idea of a giant guitar... but that's just me.

I totally agree with Andrea. Improving that area south of the tam will be a big plus. We always stay at the Divi Dutch right by the tam and looking at the old Bushiri is very sad and depressing. Cleaning up that area is long overdue. Any idea when they might start the demolition/construction?

Well, Melia Sol had an agreement for how many years before the Hard Rock took over? With the Ritz and hard Rock, the tourist areas of the island are going to get a lot more crowded.

"...Melia Sol had an agreement for how many years" And the last info heard, other than the latest promo flyer, said that Melia Sol had picked up the ball again after the Hard Rock's proposal apparently ran out a few months back....

And the merry go round broke down...

Why is the Aruba Tourism Authority then, as per their February 2013 newsletter for Travel Agents, touting the fact that:

"The Aruba government is finalizing an agreement for the former Bushiri complex to be transferred to the Southwest Group for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino project. The new project will generate additional income and room inventory needed during peak periods. It will also cater to a new young and affluent market, diversifying the Aruba product."
