Marriott Construction?

I spoke to Marriott, they are beginning major renovations July 7th thru the end of the year. I did not know this when I made my reservations in February. Now out of nowehere, they put this in my online reservation confirmation, and I am pissed off.
Has anyone else heard of this, and does anyone know anything about the extent of the renovations?

I just booked for August 16 - 22 and this is what they told me:

They will be closing one tower at a time to do renovations and there may be minimal noise during daylight hours.

The restaurant, La Vista, will be completely closed during the renovations - breakfast will be served in the ballroom.

Construction is a necessary part of progress and renovations. As the hotel cannot completely shut down during these times, the construction/renovations still need to be done, which means SOMEONE will always be unhappy because it is going on while they are there. There is just no way to get around the inconvenience, unless the hotel were to shut down completely for months and months at a time.....and then everyone would REALLY be unhappy! You'll be Aruba, so enjoy all the island has to offer!!!

My issue is not that there is construction going on. The hotel has a choice to make, that is, close down during construction, or not. And that is there choice. My complaint is that they let me book my reservation, which is tied into a promo thru the Surf Club that I cant cancel, so I am booked for 11 nights and 8 of those nights are paid for, then months later, just 6 weeks before my arrival, a clause appears on my online confirmation, informing me of the construction. Like I said, the hotel has a right to make any business decision they deem appropriate regarding when to do construction. I should be given the right to make an informed decision as to where to stay. I could have booked the Radisson, or Hyatt, had I known earlier. But now I cant cancel.

Tied into Surf Club Timeshare Promo????

Didn't know that Surf Club Timeshare Promo "tied" into anything with Stellaris....

If you want extra nights after the Nights offered on the Timeshare Promo, don't you just book a hotel independently??

I will be also doing the Timeshare Promo at Surf Club, but chose to book independently at Stellaris for additional nights.... After looking at alternatives after hearing about upcoming renovation, I will keep reservation and hope for best.

If anyone has any reports on construction as it goes along next few weeks, it is certainly appreciated!!!! Any trip reports from Stellaris July/Aug are GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! THANKS!!!

Below is a directly quoted post from another forum regarding the construction:

"Well I called the Aruba Marriott resort & stellaris casino Directly to get straight information if you can call it that!! I was conected to Milinda a manager who told me the time frame of the renovations are stiil up in the air ,but will start with the south tower July 7th and will try to complete by end of Aug. La vista will also be closed at this time & tuscannys. The buffet breakfast will be offered in the grand ball room. Also the pool renovations will start about Oct 15th this date not carved in stone. Asked if I could receive a letter assuring me the pool would remain open during our stay Sept 24th- Oct 5th I was then told there is always a chance these dates might be changed. hotel guest will then have to use the time share resorts pools. Also all the bathrooms are being replaced (How in the world wll this south tower be completed by Aug) NOT!!! I then explained it would be nice to give guest accurate information about renovations. Why would I pay for a pool ocean view and get a view of a closed pool being renovated???I then got an email stating that do to construction delays hotel renovations may take longer than anticipated with a contact number. My wife called this number. They told her she was speaking to a guest service manager he was unaware of any renovations scheduled for the Marriott resort & stellaris casino!!!!! What a joke Marriott should really get thier act together and be up front and honest to thier GUEST!!!!!"

I booked the Surf Club Promo, then booked the Stellaris separately for the additional nights. But I am staying at the Stellaris for the entire trip, including my Surf Club Promo time. I told them I would only do the promo if they let me stay at the Stellaris. And they agreed.
