Our First trip Will be at the RIU

Our first trip to Aruba in about 5 weeks. Very excited. Except for some review of Riu Antillas where we are booked. Have contacted the resort & our travel agent & both reassure us all renovation is completed. Reviews run from great to awful (which I know is common). What do you believe? This is also our first all inclusive. Not too worried about that because we will spend the extra money to venture out to eat other places for the experience. Hoping for the best. It is a big anniversary trip!

Welcome to the aruba.com community forum.

    you asked...."What do you believe?".....
it is so difficult to figure out reviews.
everyone has different likes and dislikes.
i am of the opinion of taking the best and worst reviews, tossing them out and keeping what is left.
    it is very difficult indeed.

the RIU which was the Westin til about a year ago is a nice property on a lovely stretch of beach.
there is an on site restaurant there BLOSSOMS and i do not thik it is part of the AI plan (but i may be wrong)
BLOSSOMS is terrific, give it a try!

do not plan too much, give yourself plenty of beach time and enjoy!

Welcome to the forum..... You're gonna love Aruba. You're staying at a great property and are within walking distance of lots of great restaurants, bars, shops and activities. Can't go wrong with Aruba...!

Hi Donna! Welcome to the forum!

Reviews are so difficult. One slight thing could go wrong and some people could choose to write a horrific review of the entire trip. Some people may go in with low expectations, have a mediocre stay & write a glowing review. Don't worry - you've chosen a wonderful island for your vacation!

I like reading trip reports more than reviews sometimes. I prefer to search the My Aruba Story forum (or trip reports on other site forums) for key words of hotels and restaurants. In my opinion you get a better feel for the tone of the writer and their overall mood. I find the trip report usually more balanced than the best or worst review. Since the Antilles is new it may not be possible to use this method, but I am sure you will have a great time!
Not sure when, but we will be back

We stayed at the property several times when it was the Weston and Wyndham. The beach is great, as are the grounds. The hotel was nice and run very well. I don't know what has been done to the property since RIU took it over but whatever they did, did not take very long as time is figured on Aruba. We visited the old RIU right after it opened. The employees we met were sort of rude. Maybe because we weren't staying there. A couple of years after they opened we tried to walk through their pool area to the lobby to get to the street and were stopped by security and made to go back to the beach. Hope they treat paying customers better.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I think I have heard that staff at original RIU can be pretty rude. I'm sure we will have a great time....COUNTDOWN!!!
