I wish I would have gone back when it was still $25/person - that was a reasonable price. I won't do it for $75/person - not when I have beautiful Eagle Beach right out my door and a beach bar at my fingertips.

We are going to a friend's daughter's wedding there in Sept. though - and then I'll be able to see the island for free.

Also, the mat, is that instead of a chair?

    Thanks for the information.

Floats, or mats, are used to float around in the water. Amy has one in her signature.

Randi, you are too funny...there's so many lounge chairs that you have your choice...lay your stuff on one, move another into the water, leave a towel on another...also, hammocks are superb ! The mats are the things you float on in the water...GO !!!!! cindyo

So how many people think its worth it for 75$ a person that seems like alot of money that could be spent elsewhere.

I agree its a lot of money, the part that "might" make it worth it is the lunch? I will have to find out more about it as lunch can be expensive depending on what you are having...still not $50's worth of eating.

I "think" the attraction of Renaissance Island is the location and atmosphere.

Here is a breakdown for our extended family of 10 for a day at Palm Beach.

    2 big umbrellas $20 x 2 = $40
6 chaise lounge rentals $8 x 6= $48 (if the kids want to sit they can use their towels)
    4 floats to pass the day away $5 x 4= $20
    Banana boat or tube ride for 4 kids $20 x 4= $80
Lunch (hamburger & soda $22.88 pp at the Radisson) for 10 people = $228.80
One hour rental of a Hobie Cat sailboat = $75
    2 taxis for 10 people 2 x $20 roundtrip= $40
$531.80 for ten people= $53.80 per person for the entire day
(sandwich at Bugaloe instead of the Radisson with a pina cola $166.80) =$46.98 per person

NO FRILLS & NO Food or Beverage
    2 Adults and 2 Kids
    2 big umbrellas $20 x 2 = $40
2 chaise lounge rentals $8 x 2= $16 (if the kids want to sit they can use their towels)
    2 floats = $10
    Taxi for 4 people 1- taxi $10= $20 roundtrip
    $86 for 4 people= $21.50 per person

Taxi to Palm Beach and sit on your towels
    2 Adults and 2 Kids
    Taxi for 4 people 1- taxi $10= $20 roundtrip
    $20 for 4 people= $5 per person

very nicely put! However, for us we are already at Palm Beach so no taxi cost, Marriott has chairs with bimini's (tops), and we make our own lunch!

Very true! This is the case for most of us who stay at timeshares or resorts.

I had done this comparison for someone who was cruising to Aruba and wondered the cost of doing the beach "on their own" vs. going to Ren Island on a day pass. Just thought I would share.

Again, Lisa, you give splendid alternative ways to have a wonderful time; in this case, economically; yet, at the same time, enjoy every minute of one's vacation.
