Resorts Charging Fees for Palapas?

I read in another thread that the Marriott was now charging for palapas. Wasn't their policy to charge guests who wish to reserve in advance, but there were still "free" palapas available on a first come, first served basis?

Have all the resorts gone to this policy?

As of the end of the year the Tamarijn was not charging for palapas.

As of March 2010, the SC and OC had half their huts for a fee and the other half were FREE.

No wonder the government is talking about cracking down on the hotels.

wow, that's crazy !!! we don't use the palapas as a general rule, unless Dh is feeling like he needs to be under cover...(then he usually goes and naps in the room)
Does anyone know if the palapas at Divi are a charge now ??? Wonder if that is why they have put so many on the beach, with the idea of charging down the line...

Do have one comment that might not go over well, but here goes anyway....since a lot of the cruise ships encourge their customers to go up to the beach at Divi since it is close I can see them being charged since they are technically for Divi Resort/Tamarjin/Dutch guests...or those folks that choose to go to a beach associated with a resort....Just my opinion...

I think Marriott is the only one charging.

Don't the Westin and Hyatt charge for "pre" reserved palapas as well?
