    Ritz

It has now been opened for about 7 or 8 months.
    Comments/opinions?
    Beach...casino...rooms/suites..dining ?

Our only experiences was with the casino and the lobby area and we visited the beach and pool area one morning.
The beach had few people as well as the pool area.
SWA had some getaways a week or 2 ago and they had some Ritz and SWA air packages that were priced lower than the Radisson.

Is the Ritz being marketed heavily?

When we visited, the Ritz seemed too "corporate" and too antiseptic for my vacation taste.

From the locals we spoke to in June, consensus is that it is a 5 star resort with staff who were not yet up to 5 star standards.People are not going to pay 5 star prices without the experience to back it up. I'd say high discounts are a good thing if you do not want to totally alienate people ?

We heard from locals that the hotel is constantly booked under capacity. The rooms shall be boring and the price level is to high.
For us it looked closed because one could see no people at the beach.

Read some great gossip on another Aruba forum about a possible change of hands...just like that other prominent Aruba resort rumor that refuses to quit.

My husband and I stayed at the Ritz in early July after we got an amazing deal on JetBlue. The hotel was beautiful and the beach was amazing. The hotel offers free paddleboarding and kayaks at the hut down the beach. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful. They really go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need/want. The only complaint we had was the location. We prefer to stay within walking distance to the restaurants/bars. Other than that I would highly recommend it!

We are in Aruba this week. We went to the Ritz the other night to gamble in the casino. It seemed very nice but very quiet.

Is the rest of the island busy in comparison?

We have gone over to the Ritz on numerous walks and coffee etc on both our trips in Dec. 2013 and March 2014. This is my opinion on the Ritz.

Firstly, not overly impressed overall. The lobby is simple and not at all what I had expected for a Ritz property. Not saying that you need to be "over the top" in decour but best phrase would be underwhelmed. Hyatt lobby is nicer, imo.

Same remarks about pools...underwhelmed! I understand that the style is simple but it is too simple!!! Beach is not overly impressive either.

Now for service: We went and had coffee numerous times in Dec. 2013 and actually found their coffee (Cappucinno) very good. No dessert service available in lobby area both inside and out, which was too bad. We enjoyed sitting outside having coffee and we would have had dessert too if allowed. Casino was very quiet but ventilation was much better than others as you didn't smell smoke odour as much but tables were more expensive.

In March we took some friends over for coffee one evening (after telling them the cappucinno was so good) and it was AWFUL!!!!!! We told the waitress this and she said she would bring us another one and explained it probably wasn't that good because she used regular decaf coffee and only made foam on the top!!
She promptly went back to do it properly but it was only marginally better. We were aghast and never went back for the rest of the two weeks!!

We had heard, like many of the people on this BB, that many of the original staff hired were fired due to so many complaints from customers. Too be fair, we were there soon after it was pushed to full capacity during the Xmas/NY vacation period and they should never have opened fully at that time. The staff were still new and not properly trained or experienced enough at that point to be "up to the Ritz standards" as was explained to me. They let greed of having the hotel full vs proper staff training. As a result, they lost a lot of first time customers who will go back to their original hotel destination. Staff also gave up good jobs at other hotels to go work at the Ritz and now are out of work.

It will be interesting to see what transpires over the busy season this winter.
happiness is going to Aruba with your adult kids because they still want to come with their parents
