    Ritz Carlton Progress

Work continues on the Ritz Carlton. It appear much of the main structure is up. Now they're filling in walls and working on systems. Here are some photos from today:

Took a walk along the beach last week to look at the Hi Winds kite surfing competition and snapped a few shots of the Ritz-Carlton from the beach side. They definitely have lots of worker bees getting this hotel up and running. Sorry if you can't see it clearly due to lots of trees in front of the hotel, but you should be able to get a feel for how large this will be.

The front is impressive as you see on San Nic 44's pics and the new traffic circle is completed as well.

It struck me as so much more massive than the artist renderings that were available before construction started.

my husband thought it was going to be much smaller and his words were almost identical to yours. "more massive"

It really does go on and on once you pass the Marriott hotel. I thought it looked big from the beach side, but when we saw how big it is from the road we were very surprised. I'm sure it will have great landscaping, etc. and least it's on the far end of the beach-not like the Riu, which IMHO just sticks out with its very "un-Aruba like" design.

    Full size, waterside rendering

    For comparison--
    Ritz-- 320-rooms
    Marriott Stellaris-- 411 rooms
Surf and Ocean Club along with Stellaris= about 1400 rooms.

Alex Nieuwmeyer from Divi was involved in that project. Evidently it never went anywhere? Luxurious 18-hole Golf Course and Resort on Aruba’s Eastern Shore Soon to Break Ground

The Westin Resort Debuts In Aruba Offering Dutch Caribbean Charm according to the article, was supposed to have built Starwood Vacation Ownership Villas. That plan was put on the back burner when the U.S. economy tanked.

I have a question: Where are they going to get all the people to work this "massive" hotel? ? And if they import them, where are they going to live? ? ? What about the kids that come with mom and dad to work here? ? ? Can the local schools handle the large amount of new kids? ? ? ? I wonder how much thought really went into the approval to build this "thing"? ?

    Just a couple of after the fact questions. . . . . .
