There are people that will book it simply because it's the most expensive option on the island. Things like that are a status symbol to some individuals. Unfortunately, I don't run with that crowd. At least it isn't going to create a glut of rooms at the same price points as the other hotels. The only impact they will likely feel is some of the higher cost customers trying the Ritz at least once.

The Ritz in South Beach (Miami) is a large property, too, and you RARELY see a room there for under $500/night. I think the cheapest room I've seen there was $400/night in off season. And...it's always busy/full - has been for years. Their average price in high season is between $600-$800/night and those prices are just for their regular rooms - Club Level and Suites are higher.

If it was a special occasion and there was a special on rates, I would probably stay there once. We stayed at a Ritz in Ft. Lauderdale a couple of years ago for my birthday weekend (and because we got a good special on rates). Room was nice (of course) but the service....the service was amazing! When they brought up breakfast to the room, they were not even allowed to ring our doorbell (yes, we had a doorbell) because we had our "Do Not Disturb" light turned on outside the door. They had to call our room to make sure it was okay to ring/knock first. And they always seemed to know what you wanted/needed before you even knew yourself. LOL!

None of those high end places are worth spending that much money.

For such a huge resort I am surprised at how fast it will be done. I suppose with prices as high as rumored they will move fast as they are losing a ton of money every day they are not open yet. I would love to take a tour of the resort and a room but this type of hotel probably will not accomodate such tours unless they think you are seriously going to spend the money and stay there? Will at least check out the casino though!

    Very confusing

Marriott/Ritz, themselves just released March 25, 2013, this past week, a press release from Verona Carter their own "Area Director of Public Relation" that the opening was November 2013. http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...199832591.html
