    Riu Palace Aruba

Hi people, wanted some opinions from maybe recent travelers.

I was at the Riu Palace in Aruba in late August - early September 2009 - probably the best holiday I've had. Looking to go back in June of this year for two weeks. I know people love / hate it here - I don't care, i'm just looking to find out if much has changed because I liked it back in 09.

I note the hotel had a bit of a make over in 2015, does anyone have any recent pictures. I know it's probably just the reception and the like that have been tarted up rather than every room. Any tips for me, would you still go, will it still be as good as it was in 2009?

I went to Jamaica last year but was harrassed on the beach by people selling things constantly, like really bad every 5 minutes. The Riu never had this in 2009 on it's beach, I take it nothing has changed in that respect?

Hello & welcome to the Aruba.com Community Forum!

I haven't stayed there myself, but had friends stay at the Riu Palace & at Riu Antilles in Aug 2015 - the palace friends were a family of 5 and they loved every second of the place. They had also vacationed in Jamaica a few times and fell in love with the Riu & Aruba!

The friend at Riu Antilles is a young girl who thought the place could use an update, but, loved the large bottles of vodka in the room! lol

Nothing has changed. The beaches are still free of vendors. Of course, there are tents set up to the side for watersports, rentals, etc. but those are vendors that you go to. No one walking the beach selling items of any sort.

Aloe man walks the beach daily, he's a character. Selling fresh aloe for your sunburns.
Also woman walked the beach selling their hair braiding, also daily.
So yes, there are a few out there BUT by no means are they annoying

I keep forgetting there a couple of vendors but they are more prevalent on Palm Beach than on Eagle Beach (which is where we always stay). On Eagle Beach we see the Aloe Man about once a week (if even that - but he's always a delight to see and talk to!) and I've never seen any hair braiding vendors on Eagle Beach (and hope I never do.)

anyone remember that annoying magician that used to perform at the Alhambra ballroom and the Westin?
often he would walk the beaches passing out flyers promoting his show.
he was lacking in social skills and was pushy.
