Upgrade at the Marriott ?

Does anybody have any experience w/ upgrading at check-in at the Aruba Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino? I'm wondering if it's smarter to just book the limited view room and then see if they'll upgrade for free at check-in. You'd think if they have a room empty anyway, they'd move you up.

Also... do they offer any kind of a meal pgk at this hotel and if not, about how much should a couple allow for/day for food and a few drinks...is $200 enough?

it never hurts to ask for an upgrade.
then again, folks that pay for the upgrade would be way unhappy to hear you got it for free. (so don't tell )

$200 per couple is probably sufficient.
it is the liquor that adds up.

i do not know if marriott has a meal plan.

the Aruba Gastronomic Association has a dine around plan.........lots of folks have tried it. lots like it lots think it is costly.

We were there last January on Marriott reward points. We had reserved a garden view room on points, but were given an upgrade to pool/ocean view. We also had an all inclusive plan, but were given the receipts for each meal. Buyer beware: the food at the Marriott is very $$$. Breakfast for two at the buffett is about $45. Lunch would run about $50 without alcohol. Dinner would depend on which restaurant you ate at, but would be over $100 without alcohol.

Drinks range from $8-10 each. We figure we would have spent about $300 per day if we didn't have the AI plan. We did enjoy all of the meals we had at the Marriott, even if they were pricey!

Hope this helps! Good luck with your upgrade!

babyrn1116 - I didn't know the Marriott Stellaris had an AI plan.....are you talking about the Tradewinds option? If so, the way that read (to me) was that it was only one place to eat up on the Tradwinds floor so you'd be eating at the same place every day....did I misinterrpret that?
