Andrea, this is a perfect example for buying trip insurance…-although I fly by the seat of my pants and do not, I assume that since I have a TS I have no worries..but of course that is just the fantasy world I live in…
As for the rest…..I truly agree with ArubaLisa's opinion regarding re-employing previous workers if they have clean records….especially since there is supposed to be a law stating Aruba workers get first crack at all jobs…How can international companies get around that ??? I understand if they have upper-level management positions reserved for their employees but after that it should be Arubans that get first choice of jobs….
From reading the various Aruba forums anyone booked with the Westin after the date of closure had received an email notification of the closure including the information that they would be notified no later than February 4, 2014 as to where their reservation would be relocated to.
I have a feeling the reservations will not be transferred to the Ritz Carlton. I would explore every avenue and cancel my Westin reservation and re-book at the hotel of MY CHOOSING as opposed to having a stranger sitting in an office somewhere doing it.
If worst comes to worst, assuming you charged your stay at the Westin on a credit card, I would dispute the charge with your credit card company. Any credit card company worth their salt would get you the refund. And again, you would be free to stay where YOU choose rather than have someone appoint a place for you to stay.
My first selfish thought was gonna miss Pago Pago..... but in reality, my biggest concern is for the great employees of the Westin. Next is for the poor folks that face 'vacation realignments'.... Go with Arubalisa's advice and rebook where you want to stay.... not where 'they' put you.
